got me frustrated. just adjusted the pushrods for the first time myself and everything went fine. all the keepers (upper half of the tube) came off just like they were supposed to and went back on just like they were supposed to, but when i cranked the bike up, the front exhaust keeper jumped off. put it back on and tried to make it jump off by hand and all it took was rotating the lower tube not even a quarter turn and it was ready to fly. tried changing ends with it and it still did it, tried swapping to different pushrod and it still did it. thinkin' about usin' superglue. :D

any suggestions, anybody have this happen??????? surely i'm not the only one this has happened to. :loony::loony::loony::bang::bang:

Sounds like something is not seating right. Have you run the engine and made sure you dont have a severly loose pushrod?

yea, i cranked it up and it ran for maybe 45 seconds and then the keeper popped off. the lifters were quieter after i adjusted them. the lifters seem to be fine, it's just the keeper that has me concerned.
and just by looking at them, all the keepers seem to be seated the same.

thanks Virgil.

Stretch the underlying spring in the assembly ... it may have weakened ...the parts didn't get any smaller

John, Good thought. :2thumbs:

Daddycool, not really a click but it did seem to go into a "recess".

Chacha, did not seem like the springs were weakened. there was close to 1/2 inch of overlap when putting the keeper up next to the cap.

more than anything, which doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense, the keepers are square cut on each end and when the lower tube/cap are rotated, the corners of the keeper seem to be digging in and being popped off. maybe radius the corners of the keeper so it doesn't dig in. ???

think i'll try the zip-tie trick first, after going through taking them off again and re-checking everything first.

THANKS EVERYONE. :cheers::cheers::cheers:

OK everybody, repeat after me:

Tom is a dumbass, Tom is a dumbass, Tom is a dumbass, Tom is a dumbass.........

thought about it all night and then the little light went off over my head. forgot to slide the upper half of the pushrod tube up, so the keeper was between the top of the upper tube and the upper o-ring. ain't no way it was going to stay in there. :bang:
one thing about it, i didn't pay somebody else to fuck up my shit, i did it myself.:roll::roll::roll::roll: thanks to all that responded. :cheers::cheers:

Wasn't it leaking oil before it popped off?

no, i guess it just hadn't run long enough to pump it up before the keeper popped off and i shut it down. but there was no oil anywhere on the jugs or the crankcase. maybe i should worry about that :eek:
