Rear wheel misalignment

Well as some of you know i have had a problem with my rear wheel being misaligned. Its been rubbing the inside of the pulley side right at the rear taillight. Well after getting Eric to send spacers, and vleaning every part as i go. I was trying to reassemble the bike today. Well i was screwing the drive belt side pibot bolt in and wondering how to screw it into the one part then into the other? Well turns out the pivot shaft is 1 piece not 2. Found my pivot shaft has broke in half, well more like 90-10 ratio.

I suggest anyone who has had this problem to check theirs.20200702_164020.jpg20200702_164011.jpg

Probably because I've never put one together to know what I'm looking at. You mean what really popped in my head? Everyone is jumping out of their chair, grabbing a flashlight, squatting down looking at that fucker walking out, and showing its threads... sha-dink!

Still wondering how the cap stops the threaded plug from walking, or the shaft. I'd have everything off the swing and set it up by hand with the cap flats and the shaft flats. No rock side to side and no bind. Now, how does the cap and shaft stop from moving?

And the swing can shift side to side or the cap and shaft are locked, or can you lock the one, either or? Now move the swing so many mm to one side or the other? I can think of another way but I'm guessing here. Who walked at what side? Who remained stationary?

Swingarm pivot shaft is internally threaded and bolts in from both sides.

Im glad you gave the short verison. I was about to explain that the threaded rod screws into the cap which is threaded inside and that all of it is right handed threads, So 1 bolt screws into shaft then xap screws on to threaded rod then other bolt screws into cap that has a stop inside it and when tighten bolts on both sides locks down rod to cap. Lol

Out of curiosity, I looked at the swing arm graphic and it shows the pivot axle cap on the left side of the bike. Your picture seems to show that it was installed on the right side. Do you think it's possible the shaft was mounted backwards and may have contributed to the failure?

I do think that played a part in it, but I also think design does too. Between the outter frame and the swing arm there is an adjuster it is hollow and on the end there is a hole that the bolt goes thru. between the frame and swing arm bushing technically theres nothing there to support the bolt. This was an issue years ago and it was causing pivot bolts to snap, then big dog did a recall on them and put hardened ones in, that were stronger, but there being no support is still an issue.

problem is that threaded adjuster on the right upright which is used to shim the swingarm. the ID of the adjuster isnt close to the OD of the bolt. giving it room to flex and break.

See the gap in the male part of the adjuster where the bolt goes thru, it isn't a snug fit and allows bolt to flex, same for the female part of the adjuster the hole is bigger than the bolt.

This is used to shim the rear swing arm also so there is a lot of stress on it and then you have the stress on the bolt from this and the flex every time your belt is pulling on the rear pulley.

Hey Mastiff,
Give me the poop on extremecycles. They have a K-9 I want but are horrible in reference to answering emails!

G, I bought a 06 mastiff from them new in Sept of 06. Went to MB bike week came home and found the bottom lip on both fenders rusting. Took it in for paint warrenty. After about three months finially got it approved to get it covered under warrenty. While in the shop I got the recall stuff about the kickstand spring and the ECH and ICM. Had those replace. When I went to pick the bike up there were runs in the paint and there was orange peel. It was three days before the Spring rally at MB. So, I took the bike with the understanding I was going to bring it back after bike week. While at the beach the throlle kept sticking open on me, it was the housing was to tight, and the handlebar bushing were either loose or bad. So, I took it to my dealer down there, left the bike with them and went walking around at Barefoot Landing. Noticed once I was near the back parking lot I still had the key for the bike. So I walked back down to give it to them. The owner told the the bushings were bad, that Johnny the mechanic tightened them and drove the bike around to make sure it was safe the ride, and that they loosened the throttle housing. Now how did he test ride the bike with me still having the key??? And I asked, but they just said something like they had a spare key or master key, which I knew was bullshit. After bike week, I took the bike back for the paint work. They would call and say it was ready, when I would get down there it would still have orange peel and stuff like that in it, trash, bubbles you name it it was wrong. So, I called BDM and asked why were they having so many problems with my paint and they didn't know the first thing about it. Said they had never received any warrenty stuff on my bike. Turns out the guys at exetreme were sending my skins to a guy down the street. When BDM found out they voided my warrenty on the paint. Then I got the recall on the swing arm bolt. I took my bike in for that. They crosstreaded the new one going in so they had to take the whole rear in of the bike apart after they got it approved though BDM.(which they have no record of that either) Well, during the fall rally that year I add the passenger rear peg extenders. When I took the pegs off I noticed three large cuts in the frame hidden under the pegs. (Come to think about it they did have to use a saw zaw to cut that swingarm bolt off) And they didn't admit it when asked about it. Well the next year in April the speedo quit working the rpm part still worked just not the needle. I made an appointment. So, I could get them to order the new speedo with the correct miles and everything, got down there and they had forgot to order it. My speedo read 3267.4 miles, so just to get me by they wanted to give me a lender. I watched them take one out of a customers bike on the floor that was going to be down for a while and put his in my bike. His read 1100 miles. Well, when I got back I called BDM again and told them what they had done, well BDM voided the remaining warrenty on my bike then.(This is when I got a lawyer, because that just ruined the resell of my bike) And must have told Exetreme about me calling, because my gas tank started bubbling and I took it again to them and they sent the paint off again, and put a new speedo in, which read 5400 miles. Even though when I took the bike down there the new speedo only read 1907 miles. So, I had only put 807 miles on my bike. (which had 3267.4 on it. So you take 3267.4 add 807, and that equals 4074.4 miles actually on my bike.) And then when I picked up my bike I started home and got three miles from there shop and it died. I called them to come get me and was told to call my lawyer and see if he would come get me. That I wasn't to bring my bike back, because they were not going to work on it ever again.

And haven't since. Even though the gas tank is bubbling again, there is a loud engine noise, that happens around 1,500 to 3,00 rpm. and the gas tank rattles, the clutch has broke, and had to have a service center repair it, and pay for it out of my own pocket even though I suppost to have a warrenty and a extended warrenty that is only good at the dealership that sold it. Oh, and I called other BDM dealers and asked them to work on my bike or to see if they would and as soon as I give them my VIN they tell me that they can't work on it. Greensboro told my why though, its because of my lawsuit BDM doesn't want my bike touch by any service center or dealership.

Boy that is shitty. I would of never thought they would do something like that. That's a shame.

WOW, I hope you did well with the lawsuit. It's obvious that Extremecycles was totally disreputable but I have to add it seems like BDM was just as bad.
