Rebuild solenoid

My bike would not start and traced to my solenoid.I took the cover off and it was covered with black dust.I cleaned off the contacts with sandpaper and put cover back and the bike started right up.I started the bike about 4 times with no problem. The next morning the starter sounded weak and the bike would not start.I took the cover off and it had the same black dust on it.
I am thinking it needs to be rebuilt.Does this sound right.

Good plan, you can get a solenoid rebuild kit from most suppliers (I've used 'em made by Spike)

I am a little confused the rebuilt kit from spike looks nothing like what I have on my bike when I take the cover off.The one on my bike is a wheel that has contacts and slips of a shaft with two wires coming from it.I will take a picture tommorow and hopefully you tell me if it is the same.

I just saw your post how to clean your soleniod.I am a total idiot I had the solenoid mixed up with the starter.
The starter has been getting the black dust not the solenoid. After I cleaned the contacts on the starter the bike fired right up.I repeated starting it about 4 times and it the next day it would seemed to weak to fire up the bike.
I cleaned the contacts again but it doing the same thing.Does this sound like the starter is bad or should I try the contcts of the solenoid?
