Servicing tool checklist

I will be doing all my own scheduled maintenance and would like to make sure I have the right tools so that I am not surprised. For those that don their own maintenance, are there some tools you could suggest that in your experience would be nice to have?

I have the service manual and plan on picking up the tools listed in there, and I have the standard shop tools except the big ticket items like compressor and lift.

thanks
Cameron

The lift is hands down the best tool.

  • ft lbs and inch lbs torque wrench.
  • allens (up to 3/8"), T or L handled (t is better) and for ratchets, and some ball ended ones are helpfull and almost needed for things like the speedo mount.
  • battery tender
  • drag specialties oil filter drain pan
  • 10mm ratching hand wrench for battery terminals
  • sockets and hand wrenches in standard (SAE) size
  • belt deflection gauge/tool (made by motion pro)
  • multi meter for checking ohms and dc voltage.. helps with battery and VR problems

Thanks Chris,

Looks like I am only lacking the belt gauge and oil drain pan. Drag specialties here I come...

Yeah and there are ways around those too.

I have used a 2 liter soda bottle cut as a drain pan there... or rags.

And Alhall told me he used a 10# hammer on the belt and used that and a tape measure to measure his deflection
