My gas cap is really tight for some reason. I've seen a thread on this but what did you do to loosen it up. I don't want to use Vasoline ... any ideas? :job: :spank:

I bought a replacement plastic threaded part fort the cap. My local parts guy said landmark caps are known to have threads swell over time. Cheap to fix.

Too Tight

I thought hard about changing the whole cap and paintsaver out but didn't want the hassle right now, (drain tank, heat the epoxy). That is ultimately the way to go.

There are custom caps built to fit but they are pricey (+$200). I tried vaseline, I tried sanding, I called Landmark for a replacement (no help). I called a dealer (backordered). I finally bought a Landmark cap and paintsaver set (Bandit I think they call it) for $50 and pitched the paintsaver.

Its fine for now.

mathes,
How did you go about getting the BDM paint out without damaging the paint? Did you use heat to loosen the epoxy?

I didn't remove the old paintsaver piece. It's the threads on the cap that swell from the ethanol in the gasoline supposedly. You just need a new cap. Some say Bikers Dream in Atlanta have the stock caps. Low Down Chop Shop has new custom ones that fit as well.

Don't buy a new cap. U can get just the plastic threaded portion from landmark. my local parts guy swapped mine out for less than $20
