Sounds from Primary

Energy One

Few months back while riding I heard a sound coming from my primary or at least it sounded like that. Sounded like a chain sliding against the inside of the primary cover. I had a couple of local wrenches to check it out but they found nothing. As soon as I got on the bike and drove it a bit I would begin to hear the sound again. With Phatchoppers help I pulled the primary cover,
removed the front and rear sprockets (right hand and left hand nuts). What I found was the chain adjuster shoe (white plastic) what chain rides on was broken with a piece missing and deep groves on the inner primary made by rear of the bearing carrier. Hub nut was exceptionally tight and also the engine nut. Both shafts did not have any play in them. I need some assistance from this point. Any help will be appreciated.:bang:

Are there any marks on the primary covers where the chain might of been making contact. if the tensioner foot was cracked it might have allowed your chain to be loose

some years needed a spacer / shim to go behind the clutch basket to stop the (very common) rubbing. You might need that. How is the alignment between front and rear - mine was quite a bit out and there is a picture of it on here somewhere. Did you find the missing piece of the chain tensioner? Get a new one anyway. Do both those things and see how you go.

No marks on the primary cover( the outer primary), but behind the inner primary there are two grind marks. Thanks for info about the spacer behing the carrier. I haven't check the alignment yet. Haven't found the piece of chain tensioner yet, but I will if it's there. I guess this will be my winter project. I contacted Baker transmissions and they sent me a schematic of the tranny. Believe me I will need some assistance in the near future. Thanks!
