Speedo and Brake lights

2007 K9. Every once in a while when im riding, I see the speedo just goes blank then comes back on by itself. I had the bike idling today and saw that when the speedo goes blank, so does the taillights. Any ideas on how these two are tied together and where I should start looking?

Start checking connections.. loose wires, wire grounding on frame etc:
