Speedo and Trip problem

Can anyone advise me with an issue I am having.

I was riding my dog today when the speedometer started showing me that I was going a speed off the clock.
I also noticed that the odometer was racking up the miles like crazy - the 30 miles i covered to get home added 1300 miles to the odo and trip meter.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

I think the first thing that might be suggested is to check and clean the sensor.

The speedo calibration may have glitched or the speedo sensor or speedo is wacked. When you first turn on the ignition key you should see a calibration number display on the odometer screen. I think it should be around 14000 something. If not it may need to be recalibrated. Others here can chime in to help further. It's a good place to start. Hope this helps.

FYI, my 2008 Service Manual says the factory calibration number is 49440 which is half the the two mile pulse number you get when you do a field calibration.
