Speedo don´t check when bike is hot

I have a big dog chopper 2005 and the problem is that when i ride an hour more or less and i turn off the engine, after a few minutes if i star the bike the speedometer don't check and don't appear the kilometers. However if i star the bike when it is cold (when it is one day, for example, stopped) all is ok, the speedometer do the check and mark the kilometers perfectly.
Somebody have any idea about what is happen in my dog???.

Sounds like your battery is getting weak. When a battery is at room temp it will perform better than a hot battery from engine heat. The battery should have about 12.8 volts across the terminals sitting at room temp off the charger for a few hours to be considered in normal GOOD condition.

A new battery must have 300+ cold cranking amps capacity. The old stock batteries were about 270+ CCA.

The reason these speedometers act up is due to low battery voltage during a cranking start-up. The lower battery cranking voltage may not be high enough to allow the EHC and speedo electronics to be power-up reset properly, thus the erratic operation.

These AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) bike batteries need to be kept on a maintenance charger for AGM type batteries when not being ridden.

Make sure all battery terminals are clean and tight.

Another possibilty could be the charging system is not operating good enough to keep the battery at a full charge.

There are plenty of threads here to research information on both these possibilities.

A GOOD battery and charging system is very important to reliable operation.

I replaced the battery and i still have the same problem.

When hot, does speedometer go thur check/sweep if you just turn key on without starting?

the speedo's on these bikes are shit - that is a bit of a generalisation of course Whether or not my speedo works depends on which way the wind is blowing

Might try cleaning the speed sensor on the transmission and checking you connections, if you haven't already done so.

If all attempts to fix you're problem fail I have a few Red Display Dakota Digital speedometers available. They are due in Monday. After these are gone the next run won't be till around June 1st.
