i have an o6 pitbull and starter wont crank. when i took the green wire off the solenoid it read 8.8 volts with no key on and read 12.2 with key on and start button pushed but does nothing should that green wire always have power? i would think not.and if 12 volts is put direct to that terminal should it not kick starter?i need to find a manuel or at least a wire diagram any clues?

your on the right path. no it shouldnt have power till you press the start button...I'd start with the hand control buton. then check if a pinched wire, I'd also jump out the starter to see if it really works..is batery correct voltage? lose connectors.. oh yeah do a intro,, I'm sure the police are on there way.... he has a hard on for no intro newbys.....

Welcome to the forum. Seems to be a weekly question around here from the new guys.!! :D

Hundreds of like threads here for you to read.

But I would ask...... again........ How old is the battery? Has it been load tested? You need 12.8 volts. I would say get a new battery.

Plenty of wiring diagrams on here also for your 06.

How long you had your bike? My brother lives in Desert Hot Springs so we'll have to hook up when I get down there next.

i have rode this bike for 8 months 8000 miles im addicted to it. my best friend lives in desert hot springs and let me ride his pit bull 3 times and thats all it took.

As far as my battery it has 12.98 volts. all connections are tight. i tryed jumping the starter direct and it barely sparked but did not turn. so starter might be cooked. ill take it out and check. im more concerned about the constant 8 volts on my solenoid wire. ive been reading this site since sept. and havent seen a wireing diagram. could you link those for me if possible?

should be 8 volts standing an 12 when activated which it sounds like you have

check the contacts in the solenoid

Sul is 100% correct on this, with the key on its around 8 volts, when you press the start button it will final the other 4 volts, it may not sound right but its true..Dave.

Marvs 100% Right! 8.8 key off and out and in your pocket is correct! :2thumbs:

Strange huh? But thats the way it works. :D

I'm with Marv, either solinoid contacts are bad or... the brushes in the motor itself are not making contact with the armature and providing the needed ground!
Try jumping the two big connections on the silinoid together. If it cranks, bad silinoid contact. If it doesn't, bad brush contact. This is known to happen a lot.

dead

its 8 volts with the key in my pocket. tryed jumping from solenoid to starter and barely get a spark but nothing happins. so does that mean i need to pull my starter? once again thanks for the quick replys

Yep, it needs looked at, somethings wrong. Sounds like brushes still not making contact. They've been known to stick in place and quit sliding properly.

should get your battery load checked just to rule that out.

pull the cover on the solenoid and check the contacts to see if they are worn, pitted or out of square.

with key on and run switch hit push in plunger to see if it starts

Ive only checked mine with the key on, this explains why a couple of members here have had their bikes engine turning over with the key off, with only a 4 volt variance.i don't guess the EHC knows any logic..Dave.

I have been looking all over this site with help in response to the problems I am having with my starter:
1. I am in the process of checking my wires if I am reading this multimeter right I have nothing going through the wire that connects to the top of the solenoid. I think in this thread they call it the green wire (mine is black) anyway it is the small wire that connects into the solenoid (not the wires under the rubber boot) I am going to re check this tomorrow, right now I am going to continue looking through all the threads on this problem.
