Starter install problem. PLEASE HELP!!!

Starter replaced. Bolt that holds gear on to starter spins loose when trying to start the bike. Bendix gear does not spin. PLEASE HELP!!!

If your talking about the bolt that I think you are there should be a small washer on it with a locking tab that you bend over to keep the bolt lossening up

Post a picture of how you have it installed. Many times guys install the jackshaft backwards because it looks like it should go that way. The jackshaft is the assembly with the gear on it. Splines are splines, they lock the jackshaft to the starter shaft so the whole thing spins.

There is a spacer approx two inches long with splines or teeth keyed to fit on the end of that starter gear. Make sure you have that in and facing the right direction. If i remember correctly it goes in on the starter side. Then I put the gear in on the primary side.

Its the shiny piece in this pic, but mine was dark and raw.

Wow. I should get the idiot of the year award. I left the spacer out. Starter installed. Thanks for all of your help!!!

Yeah man spare parts when you done reassembling is never a good thing. Glad to see you got it figured out and right, good job. :2thumbs:

when they came out with digital cameras and phones with cameras, I started taking lots of pics when tearing into things and it's improved my ability to put shit back togeather quite a bit.:D
