Starter problem?

Hi,

2003 mastiff 3400 miles with compression release. No ehc straight wired old school style.

The starter works sometimes or click click when not can be cold or hot does same thing. BDL belt drive. Fully charged brand new battery on trickle charger. When it just clicks I took off jack shaft cover and hit starter button sometime lins up some times not engaging not lined up. 9 toth jack shaft, had starter solinoid rebuild kit I installed because worn out contacts. Out side of bike it works fine. Just put back in last night for the 8-12 time. Can buy new if needed what brand do you recommend. I dont want to get out and find out wont start. I pushed it one time about a mile NO fun.

you might check your starter contacts.. pertty easy.. I guess the comp releases are working right...

Thanks Eric it is a bad cable from the battery to the starter. If you hit button no voltage to the positive side of starter. If I test load no drain at battery when push starter button. Ran test wire battery to starter heavy wire starts fine. I am off to parts store to get new battery cable. Will update when installed.
