Starter problem?

I just brought the dog out of winter storage and replaced all the fluids in preparation for spring. It was running fine before the fluid change but this morning when I tried to start the bike it tried to turn over then I just got a clicking sound after the first attempt. Does this sound like the starter is worn out? or is there something else I should check? Thanks for the help.

While it could be the battery I'd do a little troubleshooting before I shelled out some dead presidents...

Did you disconnect anything while doing the fluid change?
Are all the battery connections clean and secure?
Is the battery charged up?
What's the voltage drop to when you press the start button?
What's clicking, the compression releases and/or the starter solenoid?
EHC? Or WirePlus?

I kept the battery on a tender for the 4 months it was in storage. It was off the tender for 2 days while i worked on the bike. It is the original battery that came with the bike in 2006. I changed all the fluids and while doing so pulled, cleaned and replaced the crank sensor and speedo sensor. Nothing else was removed during servicing. Thanks for your help guys.

did you unplug the tender when you tried to start it or did you leave it plugged in?? sounds like the battery with that much age on it.
mine's an '07 and it is borderline.

Thomas if you have voltmeter, i would check you battery voltage while you are trying to start it. If it drops below like 10volts. I am willing to bet a weak battery is your culprit. Let us know what you find.

Battery it is. Left it on the tender all day long and got a voltmeter to test it. It 's not holding a charge so a new one is going in tomorrow. Thanks for all the help.
