Starter problem

Hi there.

So I got a problem I need help sorting out.

Started like this, Picked up my bike on wednesday after about 6-7 weeks of
traveling over seas to me in Sweden.
Had to jump it to get it started ( I know now after reading on here that it probably was not a good idea ) then put it on a trailer to bring it home.
Came home and decided to unload in the morning but test started it before I went inside, fired right up :).
Next morning I took it off the trailer and should start it up, nothing just a litle grind and then silence. Eager to show of my new bike to my brother I went to get jumpercables to jump it again, didn´t help just a litle grind and then nothing.:job:
Suspected the battery so I brought out the charger let it sit for while and tried again, noop no result. Again being eager switch the charger to starter boost, didn´t help eather. ( probably another bad idea )
Now I put in a new battery still no luck.

Today I suspect the starter, I tested + cable coming from battery to starter with voltmeter 12volt, tested green cable on starter, reads 7volt when key is on and 12volt when I hit start button. I tried to manually puch the solenoid pluncher in to force the starter to run, ( I read it on here somewhere )nothing starter is dead. Also tried to jump the starter with cable from battery no result.

So my question is do I have a dead starter or is it possible I´m having problem with EHC?? or maybe somthing else?

Thanx>Jimmy

If the starter don't spin when you shove in that plunger then you've got a bad battery or bad starter, assuming you've triple checked all wires, especially the short fat solenoid to starter wire, which can get bare and ground.

Jimmy, look on Ebay, shovelheadkicker has them all the time. He has a good reputation and quick service. i would email him. There is also another guy on Ebay from Joplin MO. He advertises a new one for around $250, hope this helps.

Hey, same problem here a few days ago. Check the connection (bolt) that goes from the inside of the solenoid housing to the wire on the outside. I was testing 12v by touching the copper part of the contact I could see inside the housing whith the plunger in. Finally tested the other side where a nut and ring terminal secure a wire that goes to the started itself. Wire was dead even with 12v at the copper terminal. Wiggled and live. Cleaned and reconnected and now starts like a champ.

And just in case....don't be dumb like me and think you can work on it with the battery connected. Pull the solenoid out just right and you will weld it into the housing. I like to think I'm smarter than that but...oh well...

She`s alive!!:whoop:

Turned out to be the starter, it was rusted up inside.
But the shop managed to save it.
