I just put the new 2.0 starter on my 2003 chopper and was better than ever.test ride ten times adjusting and readjusting things .then Rode home and slack in clutch cable guessing made me lose clutch.adjusted the slack and worked fine no more trouble.then a short ride a week later rode to 1st stop then 2nd then 3rd and went to crank and starter is just spinning/whinning.Put in gear nuetral light goes off but still in neutral keeps rolling.couldn’t push start.
But Hit the starter button with it supposedly in gear and it jumps like the starter engages like it should???
Any ideas before surgery

Best information will come from opening it up.
Drain the primary and take the cover off.
Hit the starter (with run/off switch in OFF position) and watch what it does -- watch for oil spray when the chain moves (messy with cover off)
If the starter spins but doesn't spin the clutch like the starter drive isn't pushing the pinion out, loosen the 2 starter bolts and wiggle the starter and tighten them again and try the starter again.
Report back with results and we can be more specific about what to check/replace next.

I find it an odd time for the clutch cable to come lose.
What did you do when you changed the starter? Ie; what did you remove, loosen, etc.

Sounds great

Also check to see if the clutch pushrod nut has come loose. That could explain how the clutch cable became slack although I don't think that would explain the starter problems. As stated above check for starter alignment and check the starter pinion bolt. (red Loctite and 5-6 lbs. torque works well. I put in that same 2.0 starter and it's been a good one.
