THROTTLE "SLIPPING"

Hey all -

I've got an '07 K-9 with the "Tribal" grips.

Riding into work this morning, all of a sudden, there was "play" in my throttle grip. It feels like the Tribal grip is loose from the actual throttle. It'll rotate about 1/4 of the way in each direction before "catching" and actuating the throttle.

How does the Tribal grip (or any grip for that matter) attach to the throttle? How worried should I be? I have no tools at work. Seems like it works fine if I keep the throttle up against the "stop", so to speak. I'm thinking of riding home (about 15 miles) and then taking it apart.

Thanks. Rich

sounds like your return cable broke or came lose.. mine broke the ball off the end of the cable with only 1K on the bike.. I was in daytona.. I got a new cable & installed it in the parking lot.. easy job.. but you will have to disamble the hand control..

Thanks. I installed the cruisemate about a year ago and seem to remember the basic layout. Maybe get lucky and just came loose. Thanks, again.

Okay - I disassembled the hand control and found the return cable had just slipped off. Must have loosened up over time. I put it back together and tightened both the throttle and return cable adjustments. Apparently, not well enough. A mile down the road on my "test ride", the return cable popped loose again. Put her back together a second time and tightened a bit more. Took off for about an hour test ride and all seems well. Any sure way to make sure I've got it right? Or is it more of a trial and error thing?
