Transmission freeplay

Ok guys, here's the deal. I was doing some work on my open primary. In order to spin it, I removed the plugs and put the tranny in 6th. My question is: in all gears there is about an inch or so of freeplay at the rear wheel when I spin it. Is this normal? I know-stupid question, but I don't know. Thanks guys:flag:

While spinning my rear wheel I have some play as well. Normal? IMHO yes.

My preference is to remove the primary cover and use a socket and ratchet to turn the engine over. That way it's easier and you get to change the primary fluid as well. Yes I know you have an open primary however seems like you should be able to accomplish the same by removing the covers.

Never check my freeplay till now. I have 1/2 to 5/8 in my 4" Karata? Is that normal?
