Has anyone changed out the transmission seal behind the belt pulley yet? Mine is leaking and I have the pulley off, but im not sure about removing the seal. The 07 chopper manual simply says to remove the seal with a seal remover. Does anyone know if Bigdog has a speciality tool to remove this seal? This kinda sux!

Bama, I thought I had a seal leaking and bought the seal and pulled the pulley and found out that it was a plug just above the pulley. But I think it is a easy repair though.

Take a look at the spacer between the transmission and belt pulley. They have a tendancy to wear and once that happend the o-ring will not seat properly causing a leak.

I had the same problem. Pulled of the pulley and found exactly what RRRUFF found. Took 2 seconds to retighten the plug and problem was fixed.

Whew!!! close call - so what do you do now? Use some "blue" (loctite) and time to treat yourself to an open primary.

I was hoping mine was just the screw too. but it wasnt. But, I did pick up an "on shaft seal puller" from the Mac man and it popped it out in less than 5 seconds. Amazing what you can do with the right tool!!! Cynbahd, the spacer your talking about looks good. If the clowns at the stealer knew how to tighten a belt I probably wouldnt have had this problem to start with. I guess its my fault for not double checking them. I had my bike at the deal three times and they are batting 0 for 3. (1) first time service at RB Cycles, Nashville, I took trailered my bike there, took it straight home and when I checked the oil it was 1/2 a quart low. I got suspicious and pulled the primary cover and they hadnt even adjust the chain. (2) My bike had a scratched front fork when I bought it at American Classic Cycles Birmingham AL. They ordered a new fork, or so I thought. Turns out they just ordered the outside of it and swapped it out. It has leaked ever since. Im redoing both while im replacing the seal and front tire at this 15,000 mile service. (3) Rear rotor busted off of the rim. That is when American Classic replaced the rotor and brakes under warranty. They wouldnt give me the parts and let me install them. I should have checked everything out due to past experineces with them. I am done with dealers. They wont ever touch my bike again. Guys, I know that was long, but I had to get that off my chest. I hope yall check your bike if your using a dealer for service or repairs!!!!

Can't speak for all dealers out there but here in southwest ga I have had nothing but bad experience with dealer repairs. When the warranty ran out I quit the dealer repair thing. Like Gasman said "why pay someone else to F**K up you bike". Anyway there are some seals behind the one you replaced but hopefully this will take care of your leak.

RRRuff took the words from my mouth. And if you don't want to do it yourself... find a guy you ride with to help you. That is why I have had wrench days at my place. Typically if you ride with them and they are good friends they will do good on your bike cause if it breaks down, they are stuck too.

While Jason "BYRDDOGG" and I were riding this weekend his Tranny started leaking and it looks to be coming from the seal behind the drive pully or the plug just above it.We can't get it in to the shop for a few days and the little Sturgis Rally is going on what I would like to know if he keeps the fluid up to ride it if it is the plug can it back all the way out and if it does will it tear something up.
