voltage regulator help

let the smoke out of my regulator yesterday. spoke to Don at Bickers Dream and he recommended a DRAGON. Im not familiar with this one. Its only 32 amp instead of the 40 amp oem. Has anyone used one or know of a good replacement. Since Big Dog is down for a while looking for aftermarket

Roasted mine at the ROT Rally last year and had Buds Cycles in Austin install a standard 40 amp harley VR and has been working great ever since.

Thanks, Dave, good to know. You say it was a "standard", did you mean a standard HD regulator? Wondering if it would be a fit for my 06 Mastiff.

Cant find the invoice but remember it saying HD 40amp VR. Try doing a site search for voltage regulators. Seem to remember some guys ordered a replacement from custom chrome or one of the big parts websites. As long as amps are the same you should have plenty options.

I put in a new one on Chopper Dave's bike but I don't recall the brand. PM him and have him tell us.

You can always use a 84 up softail from Harley but I wood suggest a Cycle Electric

I have been running the Cycle Electric one for a couple years now...no problems:2thumbs: I ordered mine thru Beezer's

I am running the CE-320 and I believe its says 32 amp in the book...

Good to know! Just got off the phone with Cycle Electric and the gal was very pleasant to talk too. Said she's been getting quite a few calls about VR's on our dogs. I just lost another Drag specialties off my dog. Second one in a year.... "Made IN CHINA" hmmm. Just ordered the CE320 with "G" plug. 74519-88.

And that IS the 32 amp.

Yep yep!! when I bought mine from Beezer a couple years ago, I asked him if it would be ok because it says for 32 amp charging systems...he said yes, he hasn't had any problems ...thats what he has been putting in all his bikes :2thumbs:
The only difference is, its black and the fins are polished...instead of being all polished....I have been running this with my Braille battery for a couple years now....good to go! :2thumbs:

just a thought make sure you have a fusable link from that regulator to your bat ,mine didnt have one from factory and it over charged and it fryed my thunderheart system so install one if you don't have

Thanks for the feedback folks. I picked up a drag specialties vr to get the scoot back on the road and was less than impressed. I hate putting China crap on American muscle. I will be ordering a cycle electric and changing it out. thanks again , I knew u folks would come thru.
