What are a few chemicals you guys like for maintaining your shine?

Since I got my Pitbull up here with me again, it NEEDS a bath something fierce. I don't know if I have all my chemicals and detailing goodies up here, but I'm pretty sure I do.

Anywho, I was looking through my bucket of stuff I'd purchased most recently, and it's a handful of interior cleaners, general degreasers, glass spray, shampoo, detail spray, etc....stuff I bought for my car and truck.

With the blend of chrome and polished aluminum on this bike, I'd prefer to go to Advance Auto or whoever in the next day or two and get some bike specific chemicals. I have plenty of 0000 steel wool, since I bought a bag for polishing the frets on my guitars, so I have several unused pieces of that. However, if anyone has a good general wash shampoo they like to get the majority of the crud off, then polished aluminum specific cleaners, and chrome specific cleaners, I'm all ears. I have a few microfiber mitts, microfiber rags/towels, and a clay bar.

If anyone has a recommendation for something to wipe on the chrome, then hit with the 0000 steel wool to polish off any grime/haze that's accumulated, and maybe can be used for general use with a rag for maintenance cleanings, that'd be great.

This is the car shampoo I've got, though I thought I had other stuff, but this is all I can find. It was what WalMart had at the time.

I would be very careful with water around anything electrical. Big Dogs don't behave well after getting wet (lights, hand controls, electronic harness control, head light, ect). Damp rag, waxes, and mothers billet polish are all good. Water hose, pressure washer bad for the electronics. Just my 2 cents worth.

I haven't used a bucket of water on my 02 pit for a long time, but I do use my pressure washer every time I feel like cleaning it up, and haven't had any problems (yet). I don't think steel wool would be very good to use on the chrome, but there are some good chrome cleaner / polishes out there. Mothers brand metal polish is what I use, but there are several others that are also good. There are a lot of great people here with a lot of great suggestions, and they will get you steered in the right direction with that bike!

Before you wash with water, be sure to waterproof ur pup. You can buy a can of Marine Conformal coating and spray EVERY PC board you have. Maker lights, tag mount, handlebar controls, etc. Once this is done, your pup will NOT be skeered of water. You can go one step further and heat shrink each elecrical connection. Mr Clean Magic erasers work well in a pinch. I wouldnt wash the paint with them tho. There are a buttload of posts on cleaning. Most do well. Ive been stuck on the Adams brand of polish tho. 2 step process give you chromelike shine.

Will the Mothers Billet Polish take care of ALL the metal on the bike?

You can use the Billet on all the aluminum but it wont do much for chrome. Use some aluminum foil n Coca Cola to clean it up. Magic eraser will help some with the haze on ur chrome.

Hmm, I've seen people say to use aluminum foil and white vinegar on the chrome if there is some corrosion or little spots of rust, but I guess Coca Cola would work too because of the phosphoric acid. I actually need some more Coke as I ran out today and it's my drink of choice.

I don't see Mothers Billet at any of my local stores, but it appears they do have White Diamond, at least according to their webpage. I may run out later and grab some and some extra microfibers and go to town. This poor thing is in dire need lol

The secret is not so much in what polish you use, but how you use it. Depending on how bad your aluminum is, sometimes you may have to use courser polish first, then a fine cream.
Apply the polish with rubber gloves, not a rag. Let the polish do the work. Take your time and rub her gently, getting into all the little corners. Wipe off the excess polish with a cotton t- shirt. Then polish it to a luster, with flannel or a really soft cotton cloth. Do not use micro fiber rags, they will scratch.

When someone asks questions to topics that have been previously discussed numerous times and are readily available in a search of the forum. It takes time to revisit the topic and say the same things again needlessly. Then to top it all off the person asking questions the advice you give and doesn’t follow any of the advice given. It’s all just a waste of time IMO.

Yes I am an asshole. But the truth isn’t always nice. I will mind my own business
I beg to differ. I’ve met ya and your one hell of a nice guy. No need to worry about anything. Your opinions matter very much to us. As does everyones. I don’t think Matt300 has been on in a minute and was just looking for a little help. I think everyone has him headed in the right direction.
