what starter?

What kind of starter came on a 5sp 107 S&S 2001 boxer? ? looks like a spyke... anyone got any idea what kw rating these are?

I have been having starting probs after battery crapped out and determined Voltage regulator is bad also...

now with my new odyssey batt installed ..cleaned contacts in starter solenoid and getting 12.8 volts to starter lug 12.6 to trigger and good ground the starter isnt turning over the motor...but will with the plugs removed for a lil while...

bike has 7500mi guess these things dont last long...

also does anyone have any idea what kind of primary gasket set i would need to order? have seen 20 diff kinds on JP Cycles and have the square shape center inspection cover..are they prettty much the same or what?

Thanks for the help in advance guys

I have a spyke 2.4 on my 01 prosport. cranks it fine even when I forget the decompression valves. I went threw 2 starters prior to this one.

did your bike come stock with decompression valves? any idea what part number or what application that starter is for.. I don't understand the differences between the diff year harley starters and ones specifically for 01 bigdog... will the starter for the 05+ big dog work with it?

no I had them added. I'm pretty sure you can use any good starter. I'm not sure about the 05 and up stuff they use a different drive system

What is the drive system we have on our bikes? I am shopping for a new starter but domt know where ro start...i just search for 01 big dog starter because I am neq to the vtwin scene and really dont know what it is I really have and searxhing for "big dog starter" doesnt help much.. Thanks for your help and patients

If you go on ebay and search spyke starters you'll find the 2.4 starter I used. I think I paid 490.00 for mine. pricey but it spins the bike over like a warmed up honda.
