That's the bowl. The plug is in the main body of the carb.

Are you running open pipes?Found the plug. It's out now. What can I expect from the plug being removed? If it's increased fuel, I'll have to jet for that.
If there are no baffles in the pipes, try moving the air bleed up to a 60.V&H pipes. Not sure if they are considered "open". I'm going to wait on the rebuild kit and my ratchet extension so I can tighten up the pipes for the last time. I.m going to use the standard jets too just in case it was the pipes being a little loose or the filter leaking air somewhere. I'll give you guys a hollar once I take her for a ride (GULP)
No, V&H has baffles and they stayed in.Found the plug. It's out now. What can I expect from the plug being removed? If it's increased fuel, I'll have to jet for that.
Then the stock .040 air bleed should be fine. You are running a very common set up. A 31 intermediate should be fine. You might need to move the main jet up to a 78, but that shouldn't have any effect when you are cruising. If you continue to run rich, try the 295 intermediate. I've never heard of a 117 needing that, but anything is possible. No, V&H has baffles and they stayed in.
That's good advice from John, but unfortunately on the '05 and later bikes, the ignition timing is locked into the stock Thunderheart ignition module and can't be altered. To change the timing, you have to get the Thunderheart adjustable ignition.I don't know how to ride that horse John! I haven't messed with timing since my first car. How do I do that?
Yeah, 31 and 78 are probably the most common jets, but every bike is different. Just follow the tuning manual. You can remove the plug. It makes no difference. It just creates a different pathway for air to get in and out of the bowl if the main vent is blocked. The main jet can be changed by just removing the bowl drain plug.Guys I gave in. I couldn't resist getting a black Super G rebuilt by S&S for $450. At my age, the more tinkering I can avoid, the more time I get on the bike.
This brings it's own set of problems. The jets included aren't going to match my 117 so if you guys could walk me through the jetting for this new carb. I can't ride and test with the stage 1 air filter since I would continuously be removing the cv carb adapter and gaskets each jet change. I obviously would need to start with the stock 117 jets. I'll attach a pic so you can see what I'm starting with. mleach72 and Mr Wright have earned all the food and drinks they can inhale when our paths cross, anyone else wanting to join the carb party will earn my respect as well.
Right now going through the posts I need a 040 air bleed, 031 intermediate, 078 main, and I'm missing one more. Do you guys recommend starting with the auxiliary plug out? The carb install should only take a day (for me and my back less for you guys)

I remember those. Almost pulled the trigger a couple of times, but always nervous about the install and configuration. Now it's a mandatory replacement, my old carb is in bad shape. HE MADE SOME BAD ASS CARBSShould work!
Too bad XXX Carburetors is gone (Bob Maltz died).
He made some killer Super G modified carbs.
Gave him my engine and exhaust specs and when I received the carb it was dialed in!
