The ignition key only turns on the EHC. After that the Ehc takes over and everything that happens is controlled by it. The top of the EHC has fault lights which help isolating issues to specifics circuits. There is a chance that your battery has an internal short and it took out your EHC. Pull the battery and have it load tested before you continue to troubleshoot. While your battery is being tested pull the connectors off the EHC and check for broken or pulled pins. Clean the connections up and replace the dielectric grease before plugging them back in. For safety Make sure you are neutral !!! with the EHC acting weird it can crank the bike without notice. If you were doing any work on the bike just before this issue came up go back and check if you may have made some mistake to cause the problem. Come back with any updates we could use to help you troubleshoot.anybody see this issue? any time battery is hooked up, lights come on tack on with key off and out of cylinder, and will not start, has fuel , no spark ,will crank over , 06 big dog mastiff has 4k on it
If you determine that you need to replace the EHC - bigdog.net sells one that will connect to your existing harness. Also Curtis @ Wildsteedworx has been able to get the axle style EHC replacement in the past. Definitely touch base with him. I have a Axel EHC in my ‘04 and it works great and was pretty easy to install. Few hours at most. I would advise against the DOC EHC replacement. It requires replacing the entire harness & it’s twice the cost for the same thing.thanks for the replay !! this battery is brand new just got it ,it has been load tested , no work has been done on it that would include any wiring, i had to replace carb its just been sitting up for bit , it was not serviceable, badly pitted did this about 8 mounts ago it started right up no issue ,road it a little , i than ran it out of gas so it would not kill carb again ,(freaking ethanol sucks ) just a heads up i do have a vast amount of auto repair for i own and operate a automotive shop for 38.+ years , just don't have a lot of knowledge on this bike of repair, it dose look to me like its might have a EHC issue , when i get out of work today i will check to see if any lights on EHC are on , and let you no thanks for they help , i was reading when i installed carb that i might want to replace the wiring harness and i assume that would include EHC also heard they were trash after a few miles
Yes, it could be a bad switch but I don't think your symptoms add up to that. You say when you have the key off and hit the run button the bike cranks and also when you hit the start button the bike cranks. Obviously that's not supposed to happen. The run button function is to turn on the ignition module not to crank the bike. You also said the bike doesn't start. Look for the red ignition light on the module. If it's not coming on you have no ignition.thanks i will post when i get it apart
