Well I aint been long changed to syn and it makes more noises since. I didnt notice these noises before the change. One of my problems was that my primary chain was too tight. The rest of them I will fix when I find.:2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Well, still hearing the "tinkling", haven't found it yet... Was on a couple hunnert mile ride this past weekend, teachin the new 'Dog old tricks. The noise ain't goin away.

Ain't the bell, don' carry one (different religion?) Maybe I should put one on, and then wouldn't notice the ... WTF? Maybe Primary Spousal Unit, or some well meaning friend put a bell on the beast and ... naw, would have found it by now.

Not heat shields, spent a bit of time working those over. That's really about what it sounds like though - had a broken one on the Hog once.

Coil cover/engine brace - will get to that Real Soon Now, have some bolt covers that won't go on until I do that any how.

I do notice some slight slop in the shift linkage, as in the piece that goes into the tranny (back end of the shift rod), and a little slop in the shifter lever, like it needs a spacer...

And BTW, my speedo does fog, but only in cool and extremely humid/moist conditions... I know, wrong thread, sorry.

Check that your headlight is tight on the mount.

Your heim joints might be bad on the shift linkage, if so, they will get you new ones under warranty.

I had a similar noise that I fixed by tightening the top motor mount. I guess the vibration from the motor was just enough to loosen it and cause this tapping/squeak noise.

I have noticed having the same tinkling noise but I have an open primary 3" belt drive thought it was coming from there, but have ruled that out. But seems to be worse when accelerating.

I have this EXACT noise seems from the same place. Upper end, left side. Ive been trying to locate it but its hard to ride with your head next to the motor...

:hi: vince, mine has been doing that same shit for the last 3k and still have yet to figure out just where the noise is coming from. seems to me it is more from the top end on the left side than the chain tension. noise was a little more noticeable after i changed to syn. could be the push rods need adjusted. let me know if you locate the grimlins. safe riding. :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Front engine nut? These damn BDM's don't even come with a compensator nut and if it comes loose, the front sprocket will work out, then the stator rotor will come out and make noise...

BDM with no comp. nut

Comp nut setup on a HD primary on a AIH

You can see the comp nut in top left

The cup behind the front sprocket is the stator rotor as I said before...

And you can see the spinning groves that the comp nut spins on to.

That comes out and wobbles it will take out the charging system... just ask Alhall.

I have a metal tingling sound also still. Sounds like it is on the left side also. I found a broke clamp on the exhaust and removed it but I still have the tingling going on. Mostly at the lower rpm's as well. Driving me crazy somewhat. I have gone thorough and tightened or checked everything and bunch of times. Seems like it is on the primary side by the front jug???
I have the inverted forks on the Bulldog btw.
After reading Gasman's post I am really wondering. It is a high pitched ting over and over... I have 9200 miles. A couple of weeks ago I had a roaring noise from the primary after I returned from a Illinois run and found the primary chain was loose I tighten the adjuster some but still have this noise. I did not pull the primary cover off when I did this so if something else is going I did not check.
I wondered if my K&P filter was making it. Thought if the insert was vibrating being how it is held spring tension and could be bouncing up and down doing it......

I posted this in a different thread but its stating to sound similar. Did you check inside the gas tank and make sure the weld hasn't broken off the vent tube? Mine would rattle at around 3000 rpm's but quit at the lower and higher rev's.

Thanks for the suggestion and I did check my bike for this. The vent tube is still intact on mine.

For what it is worth,
After reading Gasman post on the exhaust nuts I picked some up today 5/16x24 and put 3 of the 4 on due to the bike being hot. Went to the local watering hole to wind down from work and the tinking was gone....The front cylinder nuts were loose somewhat. The back one was still tight.
Will check it out again on the way in to work in the morning and let you know..
Thanks Gasman for posting things to do...

Your description sounds about the same, mostly at lower rpm (but maybe we're just not hearing it when we "ride right"? I also have a K&P filter...

Exhaust nuts secure, even added stainless cap nuts to mak'em look pretty.

Tank overflow vent? Scratching my head on that one.

But now I also have an actual ding-a-ling, thanks to an ol' HOG bud.

Keys dangling against the coil cover?...."tinkling"?! Big dogs don't "tinkle"!
Nope. Have nylon lock ring around spark plug wire, no metal-to-metal contact anywhere around the key area...

Big Dogs don' tinkle? I did not know that
:zzsorry:

I had the same tinkling noise and it drove me crazy. I finally read on this site somewhere that it may be the belt drive which didn't make sense to me at all. Anyway, I went to Lowes, bought some DRY LUBE, put the bike on a jack, and as I spun the rear tire sprayed the inside of the belt with dry lube. I haven't had the tinkling sound since. Not sure what I fixed, but it worked.
