oil level?

Hey guys
How do your check your engine oil level? Also, do you do it when its cold?

The oil should be checked when the engine is at normal operating temp. With the bike upright and level, the oil level should be visible at the bottom of the fill neck.Per owner's manual.

mine says the same...check on kickstand when engine is warm

It's different for different models so you need to open up your owners manual and see what it says.
If you don't have one download it from the BDM site.

since that you have a ridgid as i do mine says check warm, operating temp leaning on kick stand I belive all ridgids are the same, well oil tank on bottom, should be up to bottom of fill neck

Eric, I just looked at the 06 and 07 manuals and they both state to check it upright.

well I guess i was told wrong from dealer, no wonder I've been getting oil blow buy out the filter, thanks for the clear up, Ive only changed 1 time only got 2100 on it

I'v always checked all my bikes warm and upright, thats how you ride em.

How much oil were you putting in?

3 qts plus/ minus what ever it took to get to what i thought was full, i was filling to bottom of filler neck when warm on stand, now I see it was alittle over full, all my HDs say fill when on stand

I have never just checked the oil level. I only had it about 3 weeks, before we stripped it down. Now that the build it complete, im seeing drops of oil it the garauge. Not many, about 1 or 2 every time I park it. Dont get me wrong, 1 or 2 is way to many. When I bought it, it didnt come with the oners manual. You guys are my owners manual, till I get one. :2thumbs:

Got a oil temp guage for my 04 Ridgeback.
Checked the oil level as instructed. (bike level, oil to bottom thread)
Used the temp guage as a dipstick and then scribed the correct level.
Once with the bike level, again on the kickstand.:2thumbs:

BDM offers dipsticks from their P&A Dept. for many if not all their models. Why this isn't included with the bikes, I have no idea?!!:loony: I don't like "eyeballing" something as important as oil level, so I bought their dipstick...for my own peace of mind.

Follow your owners manual for your particular year and model. According to my manual there are two different applications, one is for a swingarm which states (when the engine is warm and upright the oil level should be at the bottom of the filler neck, when on kickstand the oil level should be between the min/max mark on the dipstick) and another to follow for a rigid which states ( with the bike upright the oil level should be at the bottom of the filler neck).

All the 04 manual downloads I can find have section 3 missing with maintanence specs?????
