Gas Tank Rattles

I have an 06 Mastiff and recently got it back from the dealer after having the bike painted, because the gas tank bung started leaking and the paint started bubbling up. It has been acouple of months now, and I went out on the interstate and kinda rode it hard. When I got off at a exit ramp I noticed a rattling sound. Found out that it was the gas tank rattling. I checked the two bolts under the tank above the front jug, but they are tight. So my question is is there another bolt that I'm not seeing or could have lost, or a mount that has broken? :loony:

Thanks for the help.

If you have checked all the mounting locations and made sure the rubber isolators are in place, you might check the vent tube in the fuel neck to see if has broken loose and is causing your rattle.....

Not that familiar with the Mastiff but you said there are two bolts. If only two bolts then there is some type of hook or slot at the rear of the tank. Just check all points of attachment to the frame should be some type of rubber grommet preventing metal to metal contact. Sorry I can't be more help.

There are three rubber mounts, one at the rear and two in front.

The front two are attached to the plate where the bracket bolts to the frame, the third is in the rear and is adjustable up and down.

If the two front mounts were reversed (easy to do) the tank would wobble.

The gas tank is a one piece. And I seen the two rubber inserts at the front of tank, but guess I'll have to take tank off to get to the last one at the rear of the tank. Thank ya'll for all the help.

Before you pull it again do as suggested earlier and pull the cap off and see if the vent tube is broken loose. This is used on the Kalifornia models where it vents to a charcoal cannister. All tanks have it but it's plugged at the rear of the tank. Many on here have had it break loose and rattle on them. If it is broken you can fix it with some of that epoxy weld stuff (can't remember the name right now).

there is a bolt that goes between the tank and the coil cover that has backed out on mine a couple times that causes one hell of a rattle. if not it is the mounts.

Found this tread- I have 06 Ridgeback and see the 2 bolts in front and one hole in back but no bolts or rubber mounts is it because it has vibrated off? back of tank sits kinda high but wiggles alittle side to side. :bang:

if your tank mounts like my 05 Bulldog (I used to have tank rattle) then you can remove the two bolts on the front mounting bracket and push forward hard on the tank and use the rear two bolt holes rather than the forward two (there are three altogether). Tank will then be tight and solid.
