Cherp/squeak in rear end or primary

Hi Everyone, I'm from Columbia, IL. Just south of St. Louis and I have a 03 BigDog Chopper with the 107 engine. When the clutch is let out and I give it gas there is a squeak or chrep coming from the primary or rear end. Tough to tell. It's not there when coasting or at idle. Will stop when I pull the clutch in. Any ideas, could it be the belt slipping? Dosnt sound like a bearing? Any ideas. Thanks, Mark

Spray your belt with some silicone spray. If the sound goes away then you will have your answer. How many miles do you have on it? Could be the sproket is worn. Many options here if you search it out.

Welcome to the forum,
Ray

Thanks for the help Ray, I will try the spray. I have 3,120 miles on my chopper.
Well you sure haven't worn it out!!!

A lot of the squeel issues will also be related to belt tension and alignment. Check this out too.

I had an embarrasing chirp when I applied a little torque. My final drive belt was a little loose and I think the chirp was the cogs on the belt pulling into the pulley groves under load. It went away after I checked alignment and tightened the belt. I made the coat hanger tie wrap tool to check the rear axle relative to the swing arm shaft position. I also checked the alignment with the front and rear tire. I was very supprised as they were not the same. I used the front and rear wheel alignment because if offered a better belt pulley alignment . If the BD handles OK etc. measure the clearance between the belt and and the same spot on the tire. My 2006 K-9 is about 1/8". If you do this you can adjust the belt tension without screwing up the alignment. I am sure that some more experianced wrenches will chime in on the prefered method of alignment. POI. On a Harley the drive pulley is tapered slightly and is designed to keep the belt riding to the transmision side of the pulley. The rear pulley should be nuetral.

I had the same identical problem you are describing with the same milage, I took my
bike back to Tim at Gateway BD. Tim started my bike shut it off said it was my motor
mount below the gas tank. They tightened it, no more chirping, Tim says they see that
alot. It might be a simple fix for yours

I just wanta ride
See I'm thinking more of a clutch rod end or throw out bearing
Sorry for the highjack s88u5

Gas I am thinking this is maybe what i am having problems with. Can a clutch rod make a spinning or squeeling noise. Only does it when giving a little throttle and in higher grears.I checked the clutch basket and all bolts they are tight but sound seems to be comming from either clutch or belt drive clutch sprocket. Here is what the thread has so far. http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/help-wanted/16339-hearing-spinning-sound-poss-trans.html:bang:
Any suggestions would help a great deal. Thanks Gas

I had the same chirping from my 08 ridge, and the problem was the belt was slightly loose. I tighten it up and it fixed the problem. If it continues to be a problem for you,you might want to tighten it up instead of spraying it. You should be able to pick a tune on the belt when it's tight enough.

I had this same problem. The fix for me was a simple tighten up of the belt.It was too lose. Also I noticed alot of wear on my sprocket.Only have about 12,000 miles on it.Seems to me the sprocket should last alot longer than that.Could have been my fault for having slop in belt but still 12,000 miles and lookin like a new sprocket in my future seems to me they should last lot longer.

Good luck with all of these things 88! I too have the 03 Chop, it got so bad that I used to ride around with a hotel sized bar of soap in my pocket, lol. I would rub it on the belt to stop the chirping and squeaking when it got too embarrassing. I had about 3 thousand miles on it too at the time. Belt and pulley changed, stopped the squeak for the time being but I am always fearing its return, especially after all the $$$$ I spent. Hey my HD is still quiet, always has been!

Yes it can. Pull the clutch rod, inspect the end for wear. Grease upon re-install.
