2.5 Forward Controls

Ok first dumb question. I'm 6'2 and immediately bought the 2.5 extension for my 2006 K9 Daytec frame. How complicated is it going to be to install these ? I really need the extra leg room ... I'm sure ya'll already have a how to on it, but I'm a rookie member and haven't figured out how to access everything on the site yet ... Thanks
Also approximately how many beers will this project take ? ? ?

Welcome aboard.. I have an 04 Chopper and I'm 6'3".. I changed the forward controls ASAP. It took me about an hour or so or 3 beers.. It's not difficult. Pay attention to the spacers when you remove the old controls. If I remember right, the shifter controls (left side) had a spacer/washer that I didnt expect but still a simple job.. I'm assuming it will be the same on yours...

The brake side is just replacing a plate behind the master cylinder unit. On the shift side you replace the whole unit then swap out the shifter parts and install the extended shift rod.
The brake side comes with an extended brake line tube but I found on my Chopper I didn't need to use it as there was plenty of slack in the existing line.
When you change out the shift rod then would be a good time to lube up your heim joints. A little oil here will go a long ways to ensuring good shifts.
If you don't use the extended brake fitting send it to Old Hippy as he is looking for one for a project he's working on.

Easy to do.

And since you have the shift side apart, take advantage and clean and polish all of the pieces.

You might want to put anti sieze on the threads of the heim joints before putting them on the shift rod.

I'll have to try anti-sieze instead of oil although I pull mine apart all the time and lube them.

Bringing up the brake line extension again. If you do install it understand you will have to get some brake fluid (DOT-5) as you will be breaking open the system and will have to bleed it again. A vacuum pump helps. But as I mentioned before I didn't use mine.

Heck...this project is so easy EVEN I was able to do it (after only one screw up)! Pay close attention to the bolt sequence as there are different lengths and if you put the long bolt in the place a short one is supposed to go on the side that has the rear master cylinder...you will screw it right through the extended backing plate and need to replace the extended backing plate. (Yea I did-and if you do it too PM me and I will give you the part number so you can order a new plate for about $30.00). Also...depending on your application there is a little part that makes your shift rod align and heim joints clear your frame (at least on a Mastiff). I used the stock part and ground it down as I thought it looked better. I am almost 6'2" (yet I seem to be shrinking in my old age)...and this mod makes for a much more comfortable ride.

Been wanting to do this since being 6'2', it looks like it would help with the bad knee. I hang my feet over the pegs and was banking a turn the other day and my foot got road alittle to close to the pavement.... sent a Pm to WB Cycles but havent heard back from him yet.. asked him if he was going to do the old group discount buy thing in the near future that i read in an old thread....:up: sure would help in the old pocket book:bang:

Might as well get a replacement set of heim joints now because it freeze up again. Keeping them clean and lubed up helps, but they need to be replaced every few years. Sucks when they freeze up in the middle of a ride.

So easy even a caveman can do it! Really not much to it just watch the seals on the shifter side and I didn't replace my brake line extension either. Sticky heims the only cure I have found is to just replace them. Oh, index your shifter and find the center then adjust the linkage to the shifter.

didnt think of that. good point! Does all trannys shift hard when you first put in gear? i have a load sound ( clank) when you put in gear and when down shifting also.

Yea I think it is fairly common. Alot of things can affect shifting. Oil viscosity, clutch adjustment, shifting technique

Thanks for all the advice on the forward controls. I put them on Friday and it only took a couple hours. Cruised around Dallas all weekend in comfort with that added leg room ...
