Getting ready to do 10,000 mile service on 2004 Chopper RT. Starting with new front tire, bearings, fork service including seals and neck bearing. Anyone have P/N's for front bearings, seals and neck bearing? Anything else I should be aware of when servicing the front end? Thanks...
You might not need to replace the bearings and races, if not just remove, clean with shop solve, carefully blow out to dry, repack with good quality wheel bearing grease ( I like the Bel-Ray myself )
If bearings are bad, replace races and bearings, top and bottom. You will need a race tool to remove the races.
Part number out of Drag-Specialties:
-Bearing race tool # DS-196005 $76.95 retail
-Tool driver spacer # DS-196029 $45.95 retail
-Handle/driver # DS-196042 $69.95 retail
Total: $192.85 retail
I can get them all for you for....
Total: $144.87+ (actual cost of shipping)
-Timken Bearing kit part # DS-222700 $13.95ea (you will need 2)
Total: $27.90 retail
I can get them for....
Total: $8.36ea x2 = $16.72+ (actual cost to ship)
So you are looking at a total of $161.59 vs. $220.75 saving $59.16 + Tax.
You do not need any seals for the steering head bearings. Just make sure you pack the bearings full of grease and put some onto the races as well before you assemble the front end. You will want a good 2" of fall away once you have the front end back together with wheel on and front fender on as well. Make sure bike is level and front end is off the ground when performing this. I go to an initial 70-75 ft lbs, loosen nut back up, then tighten to get you fall away spec.
Make sure you have your lower pinch bolts loose while performing his as well.
Double check all you work, bolts and what not, make sure everything is tight to spec. Would not want anything on that front end falling apart going down the road:up:
Let me know if you have any questions or need anything. Good luck:2thumbs:
