Chain case drain oil leak

This seemingly simple problem is kicking my ass. 2006 K-9 - changed oil last spring and about a week later noted a small drip overnight from chaincase drain. Removed plug and put new plug and gasket on - same result. Removed plug again about a month later and put new gasket and black RTV on the plug - didn't leak for a while but then started again. I am tightenting the plug. Ideas?

Crack in the case @ the plug hole? Could it be the primary cover gasket? Or something behind the cover? Because it is a low spot where oil would run to.

:iagree: What he said! You have to get a flashlight and get a look under there and trace the oil stream back to where it originates from if not a cracked drain hole. Sometimes, if it's a mess, you have to clean ALL of the area completely, take it for a ride, and look. You need to find the source not the lowest spot where it drips.

If you are talking about the drain plug on the primary mine is a boss oring plug . Did you inspect the flare in the housing and replace the oring plug or is it pipe thread?

Some models I have seen have a air shock vent drilled into the upper case near the starter check it might be leaking from here
(oil runs down hill).

Thanks

Hey Bros. Thanks, looks like I need to investigate this more closely. Will clean it all up and ride then put back on the jack. Maybe i tightened the damn little plug too tight and stipped it or cracked the housing.

Sucks....but I am with Gas and Vegas.....when I first got my bike I laid into the starter for ...lets say longer than the recomended 5 seconds ( Jack Daniels...fouled plugs etc ):bang:....couple of days later I was chasing what sounds like the same leak you are chasing...
