Im changing bars and when mounting speedo to bars (its very tight to the bars, it rubs its shure to shake, is it ok like this or is it going to screw up the speedo cover?

they were spose to be ridgeback bars anyways i got them off ebay, do i need to find the longer mount?,

My mount is 4" long does anyone know if they make a 4.25, or how long the longer mount is?

from what i read there also might be problems with getting to close to the tank

Yes, I am sure that the Ridgeback bars also need the Ridgeback Speedo mount, it is longer. But it may not clear the tank on the Chopper. I was pretty sure (look at pics in my post) that the chopper bars and Ridgeback bars are the same in the speedo area and the speedo should not touch the bars no matter what mount you use.

If you look in my How-To post on installing Chopper bars on a Ridgeback, you will see I kept my longer Ridgeback mount and put it on the Chopper bars so that the speedo was more flush with the bend in the bars.

yes i have read your post about 3 times and as much as i can find on the forum

I have found from 2 dealers that there is only 1 part # for the speedo mount , they claim there is no longer mount

Part # are the same chopper and ridgeback

my local dealer has heard of people shimming it out.

When I put the Ridgeback bars on my Chopper I ordered the other speedo mount. I have plenty of clearance so not sure why you are having an issue.
Have you replaced your rubber grommets with polyeurathane ones?

Here is the difference in the two mounts. But remember this is the old mount and all have been replaced with the new wider mount. :D

Speedo housing touched the bars on my 04 Chopper. When I took it off the wear was minimal though, I just polished it out. Vibration should not be an issue, the speedo is hard mounted to the bars, and will vibrate at the same frequency. Tank clearance is a whole 'nother issue. Just an FYI.

Actually I have seen three speedo mount lengths. The short Chopper one, the one that is on the older Ridgebacks and all the K-9's and I am sure that the New Ridgeback has an even longer one on it.

Thanks Raywood

well now that sure does show 2 diffrent size mounts, Raywood i get from (2) dealers is 1 part # only for both bikes they claim there is no diffrence long or short.

Dont spose you have a part # ?

That mount would be the one i need then and yes i replaced the grommets because they looked wore on oneside, but when you look its like there manufactured with a slight angle ( the rubber ones)

Raywood do you have any trouble being to close and rubbing the tank? I have windshield so i should gain a bit more clearance from tank then a non windshield

maybe the new superseeded part # is a longer mount and thats why it shows for both bikes.

No, our dealer got it for me. And there has to be two models cause witht he longer bars the speedo won't clear the bars on the side as Moe stated.

The speedo's have always been too close to the tank and have resulted in SB's being issued to replace the rubber grommets when the bracket hits the tank.
I want to modify mine but can't afford the CMC costs but have planned it all out so that when I have my tank done I will have clearance for the gas cap as I'm moving it to the top of the tank so I can get more gas in it. Here is what I want to do if I can find someone to make it for me without costing an arm and leg.

Thank you Ray for showing me the two brackets! I went on the BDA web site and found the same part number fit most every year. Just confirms I need to look closer at the different models. Will look now.

Look at what i just found. :2thumbs: Now the hard part. Finding the part numbers
Good work. I see that long wide on you have is chromed. My narrow one was chrome but then my dealer swapped them out I ended up with a billet one again. Need to send it out for chroming here on of these days.

I just ran down and measured mine. It's 4 1/2" long. When I had the shorter one it caused the speedo bucket to not fit between the bars so the longer one was necessary with the Ridgeback bars.
