Is this the one we would use?

THUNDERHEART PROGRAMMABLE IGNITION FOR HARLEY TWIN CAM : eBay Motors (item 260427395552 end time Mar-08-10 18:10:27 PST)

How many of you have replaced the stock ignition and are running this one?

How difficult is it to learn to use your laptop to program (tune your dog)?

Is this the best way to go (over stock)?

Can you use this with both EHC or Wire-Plus?

Would you recommend it?

Thanks, Shovelcowboy

Ken, did you see Jakes "How-To" on installing his? I just got one from Little Boo that is a direct replacement for BDM bikes.
What bike are you putting this on? If you have the stock BDM ignition module now then it would be easy to replace with the specific unit Jake mentions in his thread as the wire colors and everything are the same. This is the ASM5012 unit that fits our bikes or replaces the current Thunderheart ignition.

That is the wrong one that is in that link on Ebay, Shovelcowboy.

BDM bikes from 2005-2010 or 117" with crank sensors need the Twin Cam kit, ASM-5012.

Thats not the one you want !

The other as Ray mentioned is the exact same size housing and has several timing settings built in as well as can be programed.

I got one and have put the BD style plugs on it but have not install as of yet :2thumbs:

I changed to this ignition after reading Jake's how to, simply the best upgrade for the money. Plug and play and didn't need to bother with the laptop, the preset selectable curves work very well.

We need to here back from Shovel cause if you guys remember his chopper is part BD and part custom so until we know what ignition and wiring he currently has we are guessing. Plus he has the K-9 project he is working on and we don't know what ignition he is putting in it either if he is shopping for that bike. Or if he is using the SSW mortor or the SSW+

Need more info Shovel

The ASM5012 will work and is the best as long as he is running a 117" with the crank sensor, BDM wiring harness or not.

Thanks guys! Here is the deal. It IS for my K-9 project and I am probably going to try to go with the stock hand controls (since I have them and like them. - Moe thinks that is a mistake). I also have a stock speedo. I have the crank sensor so don't see a need to go back to the different nose cone and ignition. I bought on ebay a new 2005 full wire harness (backbone and power) from shovelheadkicker for $99 that I hope to use. I have an EHC with this info on the case:
171-000010-00 REV C
CARB EHC - 01-0476-00 RD
S/N:03257

The power and backbone harness seem to plug right in.
I am still not sure if I should use the EHC or WirePlus but since I already have the EHC and since the new ones have a low failure rate, I might start with the EHC knowing I can always go to WirePlus.

I currently have NO ignition.

Thus all the questions. All input is appreciated (and thanks to you all, now I know that the ebay one I referenced is the wrong one).:2thumbs:

Thanks, Shovelcowboy:cheers:
