I will try to get better pictures of the tire this weekend. Those pics were of my old tire before I changed out.Looked off center to me.... if not, then scratch my rambling.
LDO, it could just be a scuffing issue, what I mean by that is you have a small tire out front and a wide tire in the rear. As the rear tire rolls through the front tires footprint whether it is taller or wider there is a slight scuffing action. It's not so noticeable at first but after several thousand miles you will begin to notice the flat spots. I've seen it alot on over the road tractor trailers that hinge behind the tractor, not much difference the way a motorcycle hinges between the front forks and the rest of the frame. Keep in mind this is just my opinion, but after attending alot of tire mfg. schools and having it drilled in my head it starts to make sense. I wish I knew more about computers and how to do a demo to show you, but trust me it's happening only to a smaller degree. Air pressure also affects it because at the proper air pressure the tire either grows or shrinks and that equalizes the travel distance or the two tires & wheel assy. What you say makes sense to me Vegas but my 'flat spot' is down the center of the tire.
So, the air pressure issue also makes sense but I'm really good about checking it (every week). I put about 150 miles on my bike just in riding to work every day so I make damn sure my pressure is right.
I ran 30psi in the rear of my k9 and got real bad wear in the middle !'ve got 12,000 miles on my rear tire and I run 30 lbs. pressure in it. I think that they are wearing like that in the middle because every one is running to much air in them. Im staying with 30 lbs. and like I say I've got 12000 on mine and still going. Letting pressure out puts more rubber on the ground.
Good call Ray....if you look closely at the profile you can see the buldge...:2thumbs:Guys, notice that its not the flat spot that all wide tires suffer from but it the thread seperation above it. Look at the picture closely and see the bulge.
Shit I just put Metzlers on the Ultra!!!!:bang:My buddy went through 6 of those Metzlers in 2 years without burning them off! His wore just like that. I have never had a problem with my Avons. I would never run a Metzler, they are for sport bikes in my book!
