Fork Degree

G'day. I have an 07 k-9 which I've managed to import back to Australia. The specifications for registration are very strict here and it'll be a challenge getting a roadworthy certificate. My biggest challenge will be reducing the fork rake. The rule here is that the maximum horizontal distance from where the neck meets the verticle of the front axle is 22 inches. The standard distance on the K-9 is 27 inches. I emailed Big Dog and they said that there were after market triple trees that were less than the standard 39 degree that should do the job.

Has anyone had any experience in this area or knows of an aftermarket parts dealer who would stock triple trees of less degree to fit my K-9?

Cheers
Mike

you need to watch your trail with that - 5" is a lot. Can't you borrow some for the inspection and then put the originals back on?

G'day Lee. I'd borrow some however I'm not sure what to ask for and what would fit a K-9. I'd only need it for inspection as I'd want to put back the original gear. If it didn't cost the earth i'd probably need a 'legal' set as there's a good chance of getting a done by the cops. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers.

I can help you out with the trees. We are a dealer for Accutronix and other manufactures and we save you some money.

As Lee mentioned, you will want to do your rake and trail calculations to know where you are at and where you will end up.

Search the site and you will find a link to the calculators.

Let me know if I can help.

Thanks. I'm almost certain that the shop that has imported my bike and promised the world will come way short. I'll wait till they come back to me and say it's all too difficult before I get back. Cheers.

Mike, welcome to the forum. What you need to do is contact "Kiwi". He's a member here and lives in your area and just imported about 5 bikes down there. He can probably help you out. His name is Ryan.
We have quite a few members here that live in Australia and in New Zealand and they are riding there bikes without changing the front ends.
Enjoy the site and hope it works out for you.

G'day Raywood
Thanks for that. Kiwi dropped me a line a few months ago when I was in the US. I've been slack and didn't get back onto this sight for a few months untill a couple of weeks ago. I did reply to him but haven't heard back. Hopefully he'll log on soon and drop me a line. I'll chase him up again. Cheers:up:

Hey Kiwi That's the one. It's still in the shop. Got promised the import, certification and roadworthy but the guys backing out of the roadworthy so I may be stuck. Did you go to the trouble of getting tree, exhaust, speedo etc changed over or do you know someone who can arrange a roadworthy?
