ideas for Forward Pully Removal on a loose engine

Anyone have any cleaver ideas for removing the forward pulley from an engine on a mount?

It's torqued on tight and I need to get it off to put a new belt on. Turning the nut should just turn the motor over since it's normally removed with a block on the primary belt or chain.

All ideas appreciated....new ground for me.

should still be able to wedge it to something.

slide the motor close to your vice then wedge with flat stock or whatever.

your shit on the shelf also?

Blowtorch and an industrial sized impact gun is what I use. You gotta have a gun with some serious balls though, mine's an IR with something like 250 ft/lbs. Heat that nut up good and have at it.

I did that with mine on the transmission pulley but that isn't as tight. I think you need to do something like Marv or Moe said.

Thanks guys...all good ideas I'll try out this week. I think the nut is over torqued and that is part of the problem. May try to fab a strap wrench from the old belt....

go to a tool rental place (google it there should be one in ur area unless you live in bumfuckegypt) and get a 1/2" or 3/4" impact and let her rip air flow is key with air tools you need large dia hoses and nipples! the rating on a impact are done by using these large lines!! a 3/4 should put down sumthin like 1000 to 1300ft/lbs if that dont get her off there is allways a torch!! good luck

It has to be impacted off. A 1/2" drive impact should work. The impact motion will knock the nut loose. Thats what I use on the Harley. The torque on the Harley is 165Ft/Lbs to 170.Thats what the shop told me to use.

Good to know. I have a 1/2" impact rated to 400lbs, but small lines -- sounds like to for another buy! I've not used it on the bike as yet. But I do have a impact socket the right size. :up:

No blowtorch, but have a heat-gun I used on the rear pulley removal....that and a breaker bar

You mentioned that you're changing the belt so if you have the old one it would make a hell of a strap wrench and wouldn't slip!

I think I would try the strap before the impact. Impact should be last resort

that heat gun dont do shit unless it get the nut red hot??? the idea is to heat the nut quickly b4 the shaft heats up?? but you shouldnt need it wit the impact!!! good luck

holy shit thats alot of torque, hang on, if the motor slips out of the mount you'll have the whole motor spinning on the end of the impact tool:roll::roll:
