Second (replaced) Speedo Fogging

How many have had your speedo replaced under warranty and the new one is fogging also?

I know they replaced it because it has the slower needle response, and instead of fogging after 20 or so miles of riding it now fogs at around 45 or so.

I do keep it in the garage which averages 50 degrees and was 45 when we rode a couple days ago. I don't know if this problem can be fixed with these AutoMeter's or not.

A friend of mine say's it depends on the atmosphere it was assembled that makes the difference (assuming it's air tight). I don't know about that:confused:

I'd love to here what you guy's think on this. I will be calling the dealer back on this as soon as Christmas settles down. They may have to get another one. Dam'it

My new one fogged 2 days after it was replaced. Just never brought it up to the dealer yet

I'm with Hoat.

Mine just lasted a couple days before it started fogging again. I did like the newer black face with blue back lighting. The only way I have seen a gauge or optics not fog, is to have it nitrogen filled. Having a reset button in the middle of our speedo makes it rather difficult to seal any kind of gas inside. Throw some vibration in and the seals start leaking.

I simply give up.

I found on mine that the moisture is getting in from the pin area. The boot area may have a hole in it. Mine does. Right around the base. may have happened resetting the trip.

Oscar, your reply reminded me...I believe most fogging occurs at the bottom and climbs up the speedo. The reset rubber may be the most vulnerable area, I don't know.

Wow I have had 3 and none of them ever fogged. They just bounced all over the place. I just recently had the newest one installed and it finally works well with no bounce. Have not seen any fogging either at this point.

I'm with Rick, but we both live in the figgin' desert practically here in CO. Mine fogged when in lived in Tulsa (humid) they replaced it, the needle bounced around like crazy, had it replaced up here this summer and it's got the new mount too. Needle doesn't bounce and it hasn't fogged...fingers crossed.

Hey guys, I'm on my 8th or 9th (lost count!) and never had an issue with fogging while I lived in Kalifornia but as soon as I moved north I started having the problems. My last one was the new style with the sealed button on the face and it still fogs but very little compared to my others. I can live with it now!
Seems to be and issue in colder climates for the most part!

Mine has been fogged up since the day I picked it up - hot, cold, wet or dry. Now that the bracket which holds the battery box cover in place is broken on the right side guess its time to kill 2 birds with a single visit and get a new speedo and covers or what ever they have to fix the problem. Seems this is common so as soon as I get the new one I will reinforce it.

Need to get a photo of speedo ..

My new 07' K-9 started fogging the first week. Bikes in the shop now for the 500 mile check...BD warranty is saying that they are not going to replace anymore fogging speedo's untill thay can find a fix....we'll see...sounds like its been a problem for a while. My 03 Mastiff did the same...but they let me buy one for $358.00.

mlb2992, that position from BD is fine by me as long as they consider my second speedo that fogs as an open warranty claim. As far as I'm conserned it's not closed until it works right when ever that is. Just got to get it on record.

I agree... I think that should be the stand on any of these unresolved issues...
