Howdy,
Greetings from the mountains of No. New Mexico.
Went for a 150 mile ride last Sunday on 2007 BD Chopper, everything was fine, parked bike. But yesterday I tried to crank over and she hit a few licks - then nothing but comp release 'clicks' after I tried starting again. So I checked battery (was over 12.5 V), and power to starter solenoid (showed about 9 V, then about 12 V when starter button engaged). Then disconnected starter solenoid-to-starter-motor cable and measured voltage there. Was about 12 V when starter button pushed. However, there was no 'click'/noise in starter solenoid. Maybe this sucker is too noise insulated to hear?
Today, I measured starter motor resistance (from input cable to ground) - got about 900 Ohms. This should be almost a zero/short, right? Smoking gun? Then I removed plugs (so there would be no compression resistance) and temporarily connected a wire to battery + and to starter input connection (w/o any solenoid connected). No noise from starter - not even a mosquito buzz.
So, it appears starter is toast, but starter solenoid and EHC (comp releases work w/right delay time) are OK. Anybody familiar with, say, water getting into starter and corroding electrical feed/connections inside, or brush/field-coil/armature windings issues?
Thanks,
Louie/Pu-239

I'd check the starter contacts.. also see it the wire inside of the solenoid that power the starter motor are not brokes off the contacts check the termianals for the solenoid are in tact..
