I Suspect I'm Lean. Jetting Help Please

2007 K9 with V&H Big shots and factory breather. Recently purchased this way and I think its lean. I get lots of pop on decel and an occasional hicup through breather. While riding at any steady speed in any gear at 2000 -2500rpm you can feel it surging but as soon as I twist the throttle a bit it will jump and run fine. Pulled the plugs and they look right on and will go ahead and replace since i pulled them. I dropped the bowl and the jets are 74 / 295. Are those the factory sizes and it wasn't jetted when the pipes were installed by previous owner?

Anyways, I see in other posts people are running like 76/31 jets with the V&H pipes so would that put me on the right track?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated my fellow bikers!

I had same issues with 2-1 Bigshot pipe on 06 K9. I installed a S&S Dual air intake and bumped the jets from 74/29 to 78/32. Scoot runs a whole lot better. Lannie at bikers dream atlanta recommended setup based on dyno run on scoot with similar setup. So if keeping stock intake maybe just bump up to 76/30 and check using the procedures noted in the how to section..

74/295 are the stock jets. Bump up to the 76/31 and it should be alot better. You will then need to set the carb adjustments. Do a search on tuning the S&S G carb on here and there is lots of "how tos" on the subject. Pretty easy.

That hiccup will drive you crazy! :loony: From a thread listed here a while back, most are running a 76-78 main and a 31-33 intermediate. I had the same hiccup and bumping up the jets took care of it. Good luck.:whoop::cheers:

You may want to change out the breather as well as bumping up the jets.... you may just want to up the intermediate, readjust the carb and go from there. I did that on mine and it eliminated the 2k hiccup.

I think that I would try adjusting the carb. first, before doing ANYTHING! :2thumbs:

Look in the "How To" section for the S&S carb. adjustment instructions.

But that's just me. :loony:

dead
Dead doesn't even have a carb to adjust. :job: He's daydreaming again wishing his bike were home so he could work on it. You may just want to start off by changing out the intermediate jet. This will require dropping the bowl on the carb to get to it. Go with a 31 or 32, then see if that fixes your hiccup. YOu can go back later and change the main just by dropping the bowl plug in the bottom of your carb if you need to change that jet.

I don't understand homophonics.....What the hell is a "skippy"?:job: And why haven't you shipped me your duel spike intake? By the time you're riding again, they'll have a triple spike that you'll like even more.

I love this place...:whoop: Thanks for all the help! I think I will pick up a 76/30 and print out the carb tuning guide and go from there with the stock breather for now. Eventually I will get another breather, but price of the bike and TT&L ate up all my funds at the moment  Will let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
