Ya; I don't give a shit the guys gonna be down for a week or whatever and spend some money for something he may or may not need right. My bike runs fine....:D

I still ain't buying the whole root of all evil is this mysterious EHC, but whatever... Happy Friday....
Actually, the root to all evil is a shitty battery. Probably a lot of the EHC failures are do to a battery that is bad.

Dead does know a few things about EHC (Emollient Hand Cream) :job::job::job:

I've not only read a lot about the EHCs, I actually studied & run some test on the failure issues.

The '04s, either their good or their bad!

The '05s & '06s (with the exception of the clear potted ones) are better than the '04s by a long shot. But still were trouble at times, and easy to mess up if you're not careful.

The '07s were a drastic jump up in reliability from the previous EHCs. Thanks to Mike and the Team! :2thumbs:

And the '08s to present are even better. :2thumbs:

But "MOST" of the problems "ARE NOT" so much with the EHCs, but with the electrical connections to and from the EHCs!
Yea, they go bad and I'm by "NO MEANS" defending these monsters.
But I feel that it's pretty hard to tell someone to go and buy the WP unit, when I know good and well that there are things that need to be checked out to see if the EHC is "TRUELY" bad.

I think that the "How-To" check your EHC was previously done on here, correct?
But in order to do up a thread on "How-To" diagnose your EHC to see if it is really bad, would take months or maybe even years, because of so "MANY" differet things that can affect their proper operations.
Plus not all here (No Offence) are electrically inclined enough to check everything properly.
But It's a Good Idea! :2thumbs:

Yeah, I hear ya....:2thumbs:

You clearly got more experience and first hand knowledge than myself on 'em. I was just trying to help nudge him to actual diagnosis and maybe get him squared away. Like you said right off, sounds like different issue; but what ya gonna do. I gotta stop looking at these types of help questions...:D

:D
It's about damn time I got R E S P E C T !!!!!!!:cheers::whoop::cheers:
If I fix it once, then you know you'll never have to work on that problem again. Mr Fix It! That's me. If I don't reply to other threads, it's for your own good. :D If I reply to a thread, it's because I've already broken it and fixed it. It may have happened in a previous life, but I've done it all the same. A flat spot on a tire or a flat spot on a chariot wheel. Same thing.:roll:

okay, just ordered the wire plus today. I plan on going through everything electrical again this weekend just to make sure. Maybe I jumped to soon but I can not take being stranded anymore. the 2.5 miles I pushed the bike up and down hills just to get back to the house needs to stop. I have spent many hours and way too much $$$ to have a unreliable bike. makes me really think this could be the reason big dog may be a artifact in the near future unreliable bikes and overpriced!!! I do enjoy it though with the exception of all the HD riders out there busting my balls

dead, I ordered the wire plus and I have read many articles on the other problems with these bikes.
I have checked / changed new batteries
checked all wires
cleaned contacts on starter
had the starter rebuilt just cannot figure out why the bike is dying like someone pulled the power cord today it died slowly and cruised to a stop... would not start for quite some time started for a few seconds and died again for good...

sounds like a charging problem to me. either the stator or regulator. test the charging system with volt meter with bike running at 2000 rpm. you should see about 14.2 volts across the battery terminals. if not, you have a charging problem.

Does your bike still have electrical power when it dies? Are all the lights on and the starter still work? If so then I agree with the others, your cam sensor is overheating which some pipes that run to close to the cam cover seem to cause this. If it is the cam sensor don't replace it with the plastic ones, get the metal one. I think Gas Man or someone else has a How To on it.

You live in Hawaii. :nopity: I would rather push a bike in Hawaii than drive a truck in Pennsylvania right now. NO SYMPATHY FROM ME. :D

I am going to see if it will start today and check the charging system. All the lights are working fine the ehc ignition light works fine when the start button is pressed. so maybe the MLB with heat shields may be causing this. hmmm

Take off the cam sensor cover, start the bike, and run a hair dryer or heat gun on it. Be careful not to melt any wires. If it dies, you got a bad sensor. Could also be the ignition crapping out. Next time the starter clicks, check for voltage at the little blade connector plugged into the starter. If you got juice, could be a bad starter. If no juice, could be the ehc. Since it's clicking I'm assuming it's the comp releases which means the start button is working fine. Jump the two big lugs on the starter, if it turns then you prob got a bad solenoid.

Moe did what your said with the hair dryer and sure enough it cut off.. bad cam sensor?? anything else I should look into?
Thanks

Cam sensor makes alot of sense as the bike gets warm it dies, and will not start. 1 issue down.. sorry guys this bike has tested me. I still have a speedo that is not working out but let me get one thing fixed at a time. checking with the local HD shop for a Cam sensor.
