Sounds like it could be many things causing the effect you described.

Loose wire connection
battery condition
EHC
Cam sensor
Keyswitch
handelbar control stop button
Fuel feed

Next time it happens try to take a mental picture of the gauge lights and conditions to help diagnose the problem later.

Good luck!

i have the super G carb is that the same as the pic... same kinda set up

more than likely, on the '05 you have the "E" carb instead of the "G". you may even still have the restrictor plates between the manifold and the jugs. if the carb has Super G stamped in it, ignore the first part of the post.

My 03 Chopper has been doing the same thing and that is exactly how I described it, "a hick up!" The guy that has been working on mine is pretty knowledgeable and has adjusted the carb for me in the past. Anyway, when I mentioned it to him recently he said, "before we get to far into this and get real complicated when's the last time you checked or changed your spark plugs?" I'll let you know what happens, its been over 100 degrees everyday for more than a week so I haven't been real compelled to get out there and try it or ride it!
I know it sounds simple but one other time I had a really odd problem, this time it was at the Big Dog dealer, and after not being able to figure it out and contacting BD the person at BD asked if they tried the spark plug wires. That was about the only thing they hadn't tried, they were into all kinds of shit! Guess what? They changed the wires and it was good to go! So just maybe!

My 09 Coyote did this right after I first got her, found out that the plug wire was loose from me clipping my key ring to it. I just tightened up the wire end so that I got a good "snap" when I pushed it on the end of the plug, and now I check it every time I get on to ride, and it has never done it since.

Hey Steve, I got the same issue bro...I just got an 07 BD Mastiff and as I'm riding at a steady 65, 70 MPH or whatever, I get just like you said a "hick up." Does it have a hissing sound to go with it kind of?

What gas are you running? The dog sure likes the 93 octane better. Night and day difference.

My 08 Mutt does it too. Especially when the weather is hot. From what I am reading I am going to change the intermediate jet. I don't have any problem while accelarating or idling. Just when out on the road cruising at a steady speed. It doesn't do it a lot. Just when it is hot out, and while I am cruising.

This is the same problem many of us have had soon after getting our dogs. For the majority, the fix was simple. Increase your intermediate jet! You'll have to drop the bottom of your carb to do this. If I were to guess, the most common jet combination would be close to a 76-78 main and a 31-33 intermediate. The hiccup will only get worse with time. Mine sure did. Actually, when I bought my Dog, the previous owner told me it did this and no one could ever find the reason why. As soon as I joined the forum, the answer was one that many others had experienced. Never had a hiccup since. :whoop:
