Need carburetor tuning help

Energy One

I just did a full rebuild on my carburetor and am having trouble getting it tuned right. The bike cranks and will idle fine. If I slowly roll over the throttle it will do ok too. However, if I quickly give it gas (in proper Big Dog fashion) it bogs as if it's starving for air. It doesn't die and it will throttle up after a short delay but I'm trying to get back that immediate response that it SHOULD have. I've tried adjusting the fuel/air mixture but this doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

Hey, sorry about the new member with no intro stuff. I've been a member for quite some time under the goofy name of "dewadoo" and always read others postings but never contributed. I just reregistered today since I needed help.

Anyway, I just put the bike back together today. Haven't taken it on the road yet. I'll try the accelerator pump and let you know how it goes. Didn't really figure this needed adjusting as I hadn't messed with it but i guess everything being new it might need some tweaking.

Ok, I think that was the problem. I'm headed out to ride this thing as it's purrfect weather here now. I'll try to get back on here later on this evening and give a better intro. Thanks guys.

Make sure bike is at full operating temp when tunning. If the engine is cool and you torque the throtle it won't be right. Plus easy on the engine overall if its warmed up and you're crackin on it.

Like "Dennis" isn't a goofy name? :D
LOL I hear ya.

Ok, here's what happened. I rode the bike over to a buddies house who is helping me with ANOTHER project and the throttle still isn't giving good response so he helped me with the bike. Come to find out I had improperly installed the 3-piece accelerator pump spring assembly :bang: and wasn't getting contact with the pump rod until the carb was almost all the way to full throttle. I had looked at S&S exploded views and even called and talked with one of their techs yet nothing helped until my friend looked at it and says "well here's your problem..." So now I'm back on the road.
