I returned from Sturgis to find that I only had 3/4 of a quart of oil left (was full when I left). when I contacted the local service center I was told that there was an issue with the 05's in that Big Dog put 107 rockers & rocker boxes on the 117's and that they damaging the engines. Has anyone heard of this? if so, what are my remedies? When I contacted Big Dog about this I was told that my warranty had expired and that I was SOL.

Shows you what your local service center knows!!!

The 05 model introduced the new SSW+ motor meaning you have an Evo bottom end motor with Twin Cam style heads on it.

Do a search on TP Rockers and you will find hundreds of posts on this subject. It's been beat to death but I will tell you I have 79,000 miles on mine and still have the original parts so...........

As for the oil if you aren't burning it and it's not leaking then you need to keep an eye on the oil level. My latest ride this summer was 7000 miles and I used one qt through the trip.

Agree with Ray, no problems here either. Don't get to ride as much as I want due to military duties (nowhere near 79,000!) but retirement soon and let the Big Dog's Roll!

His oil is going out his exhaust due to excessive wear on valve guides. Mine did the same thing. A few success stories from those with TP Rocker Boxes, but there have been many threads on the fuckups these have caused. My guide was worn so bad, I'm lucky it didn't break the valve like it did before. Trying to get a "deal" on some S&S rocker boxes and rocker arms but looks like I just need to come up with a grand and save myself the agony of future disasters.

Yeah I'm worried about mine too. Been listening real close.

How many miles did you have before you got inside it?

About 7K when the valve broke mid-stem. About 13K on it when the valve guide wore completely out allowing oil to get sucked into the cylinder. It would smoke like hell for about 2 minutes, then run without smoking for about 15 minutes. Guess it keep building up pressure or volume. Either way, it killed mosquitoes for about 2 square miles when it did smoke.
