Another Speedo issue

Searched the threads and didn't find anything with this exact problem. First off Dog is always on the charger when not riding, so I don't think it's a low voltage issue. When I turn on the key on the speedo will cycle like normal. All is good I ride for .3 miles and whatever speed I am at is where it will stay until I turn the key off and let it recycle. It has done this now about 5 times or so all in a row over a couple weeks of riding. I did clean the sensor last night and havne't taken it back out to see if it now works. Any ideas. It just seems so weird because it will work fine until .3 miles and then stuck. Thanks for any input.

May have to take it to a dealer and have it "flashed". My neighbor had the same problem and that is what he did.

If you have ever thought about a Dakota Diogital now might be the time. They are in stock at Dakota which lately is unusual. It's a fast seller and everyone here that has installed one loves it. True Plug-N-Play. Installs in about 30 minutes. I have them on the group buy page at this link.

Try this.......It's cheaper! and will solve the problem if it's a connection issue.

I think on a 06 the speedo signal wire comes from the trans speed sender under the RH belt drive cover. It goes to the speedo head but also tees off to the the EHC for other info.

Need to check from the sender to the inside speedo head all the connections in the path. There is SIGNAL, POWER and GROUND. If the speedo is hanging at one spot after working then it may be a power or ground connection. If it falls back to zero or pegs it may be a signal connection. Sounds like a GROUND or POWER wire connection is loose.

Clean connector pins if dirty and fill connector pin area with dielectric grease.

Get the EHC flashed as well for the newer speedo double power reset.

thanks for that. I will check it out. Now it was flashed back in Mar of 08. Is this the newest flash or is there another I should get?

Mad Dog, I have been considering one. Just a couple other things I wanted to do first. I will get one next yr regardless, but was hoping to hold off for a few months and do the duel runner and redo my seat first.

The new speedo EHC flash will sweep the speedo needle twice. Once when you turn on the key and AGAIN when you press the START button. BDM did this because the starter cranking would draw down the battery voltage low enough on bikes with weaker batteries to cause the speedo electronics to loose proper minumum voltage and get it into a wacked out state while the bike was then running.

Check at battery terminals for around 14 volts when the bike is 2000-2500 RPM. Battery needs to be in GOOD condition as well. Battery should read about 12.8 volts off charger for two hours.

Had the same problems, evan changed the speedo 3 times and after a couple of weeks it did the same again....Put up with it 4 a summer, then had cranking problems so bought a new battery with a higher cranking output from JPcycles and it seemed to have solved the problem...Speedo works fine every time. my battery was 5 years old and is always on a charger but over time they lose there power even tho it shows it hasnt.....
