Neutral Light not working

Energy One

I have searched the forum for my problem. With no results for a solution. I am hoping with the expertise on the forum I can finally get my neutral light working again. Here is some back ground info. New battery and have load tested it. OK. I have replaced the neutral switch and plug connector and had the wires on the tach ring resoldered by a computer store. Better than factory. Still no neutral light. I have had the light on a few times in the past but very dim and then it would go out. And not come back on. I do have a manual and have read all items about the neutral light knowing its not a EHC function but passes thur. I need help in checking the wires and connectors. Not sure how to use a DMM.(Digital multi meter) Thanks

If the light still works sometimes then sounds like you may have a bad wire. Maybe chaffed or broken. Check the wire from the light back to the switch. You can use a test light. Be sure the bike is in neutral, switch it own and back track from the light to the switch. Wire could be broken inside the insulation and not be visible to the eye.

Thanks for the response thats what I was going to start tomorrow. I was even going to check the pass through of the EHC of ground and green wire. Its going to be a pain in the ass to find the short. Thanks again

Mine wasn't working on my 02 Bulldog but my turn signals were. I figured out the connecter on the back side of the insturment lights was not making a good connection cause the clips that hold it in were broken so it was just dangling there i pushed it in really good and started working. Might wanna try that if you haven't. Simple test before you go into looking for broken wire I think.

Thanks keep the solutions coming. Yep I checked all connections. I have had the tach ring fixed and all eight wires resoldered. Still no green light. I have always had the turn signals, oil light and high beam lights working.

I had an issue with mine and I wiggled the plug down on the tranny and it came on. Must not be getting a good connection. Not sure if your problem is the same but worth a shot. Or it could be the switch itself. I know you said you replaced the switch on the tranny and the plug

Gas Man:
Check the connection on the top of the tranny. That is the big wire connector right on the top of the tranny. Check there first.

Raywood :
As Gas says the contacts get dirty and it will cause it to work intermitinely. I just reach down at a stop and wiggle it and it will come back on.
The top is open to water and other debries so I filled mine in with RTV

Simple test to see if the switch is working.
Jump the 2 wires together at the switch.
If it lights up either the switch is bad or out of adjustment.
If that's not it you need to test with light or a meter

or out of adjustment? You are refering to the switch on top of tranny. Right? Should I just wrap a wire around the switch and put the plug on? Sorry when it comes to electrical alittle stupid. I do have a test light and will check each connections. I have tried to make sure the neutral connector is tight at the switch. I have even taken off the switch from the tranny and pushed in the ball and still nothing? I guess I better check the connections at ehc and then all the connections up the backbone(tank is off already) I have the tach apart also and just have the tach ring connected. everything is exposed to check wiring easy.

Yes just use a jumper wire to connect the two wires on top of the neutral switch.
With the key on the light should go on.
By what info you posted it probably will not light up.
This would be the first step to see if it is an electrical problem or an internal trans problem.
Hope this makes sence. I'm typing on my phone.
