what were these guys thinkin when they install thisthing on these bikes. its pretty sad that my sons little 90 cc four wheeler has a louder horn than my big american made bike. has anyone found a place to put train horns on their dog, or has anybody replaced their horn with one that does the bike more justice. any sugestions would help.:flag:

Its is a pretty sad horn .. but I elected to keep it as a ice breaker/fun thing ! The open pipes .."if allowed in your area" is all the horn I need ... I started to rip the thing from the bike two years ago but stopped when I noticed the smiles and surprised expressions from others .. It really is fun when leaving from a public place ...your 117 rumbling "open pipes" sounding like thunder "compared to the wimpy sounding Hds " then to lighten the mood a bit a short toot or should I say eek ..LOL it never fails to bring a few laughs .. Have a little fun ... Your riding one of the sexiest and best preforming rides out there !!

I agree. You know, I don't remember the last time I even used the damn thing anyway.:D

I installed a mini air horn on the back of the kickstand mount. The top bolt that holds the kick stand secures the air horn. Almost 10,000 miles and no problems. Very hidden. Does not stick out of place at all. Nobody has even noticed it until I point it out.

Even on my "Wimpy" HD I find the best first action to an incident is not the horn. The horn is usually reserved for a couple seconds later combined with a hand gesture.
Disclaimer: Scuba....It's all good man. This is a Big Dog Forum.:2thumbs:

I got a clutch and throttle that usually works pretty good with the Thunder header.

Here's a suggestion- next time you find yourself stopping someplace where you want to line up your bike with the back tire to the curb (and there's folks around to hear it), swing out into the street, finding neutral as you do, and then as you walk the bike backwards hit the horn at regular short intervals:

*beep*.....*beep*.....*beep*

That's when you'll realize one of BD's best kept design secrets- it's not a horn at all it's a back up alarm!

...seriously I had a buncha locals at this little dive bar thinking that for real I had a back up alarm on my bike for about 2 years... funny as hell.

For inspection purposes only do I keep the horn! :bang::bang:
Funny you say that. Before I head off for a ride I do a quick safty check to make sure all lights are working properly (I'm a magnet to WSP). I find myself always beeping that darn thing on my checks and I don't know why. I never have used it other than to check it for some reason. The pipes on the scoot are all the warning that's needed as stated in the post earlier...:D

Ok I'm interested now. Chrome air horns on the down tubes would be cool. Got to find the right ones though. Then there's the problem of a tank to hold the air and a compressor big enough to fill the tank. I'm on a quest. I started looking here.

1510 Kit - Emergency Firetruck Air Horn Kit, Emergency Air Horns, Emergency Horns

This may work. Not as cool though.

Heres a YouTube video of the horn above installed. A big improvement.

Laughed out loud Oldhvymetal very clever ...will be stealing that idea this summer !!!
Just don't spread it around too much brothers and sisters, it will lose "effect". Always glad to be of assistance...

Of note- one day I pulled up to that "dive bar" and forgot to hit the horn as I backed in- one of the guys there got suspicious and said: "Hey, what happened to that back up alarm you had?"

I told him: "It screwed up- I called the dealer and they're sending parts on warranty. I'll have it back working in a week or so."

They actually believed it... good grief.

I commend PaulHart and anybody else who is serious about this stuff... and bow to Husky. What I'll say with all respect is that I avoid making any electrical changes to my old dog... having been there done that and learned the lesson- that being said, mine is a '00 like 00Husky's is, so I can't say any more about those with newer bikes who are trying to sound like Honda VTX's, or Semi's, or the 9:15 train out of Albuquerque- and I'll quit now before I get myself into trouble with all y'all... if I haven't already.
Peace, Respect to All,
OHM
