Clutch plates

Energy One
Alright, So here is another problem (yes I have looked all over the forumn) when the bike is cold and I go from neutral to 1st the bike lunges makes a loud clank and shuts off. also when I have the bike in first and pull the clutch lever it will not move. I spoke with a local HD shop and they said it is probably the clutch plates after warmed up it rides fine. any places to try any good how to's on replacing clutch plates. would like to save some $$$ if possible.
Thanks

Just finishing up on installing easy pull kit in mine. Contact Energy One for plates (reg or easy pull). Baker for ramp kit for easy pull. Total cost for plates and ramp about 170. with shipping.

We use Energy One as well. Let me know if you want me to bring a set in for you and I will see what kind of forum pricing I can do for you.

The lack of a easy clutch pull device is not your problem.

The wet clutch plates are sticking when the bike is cold. You don't need to replace the friction plates unless the clutch slips when your riding. My suggestions...

(1) Before you put the transimmsion into 1st gear, push the bike and have it rolling, then drop it into 1st. You can do this from the seat. This works for my old Shovelhead.

(2) Remove the friction pads and give them a light sanding to clean off the oily glaze that makes them sticky. This will keep them from glueing together when the clutch basket is pressed together for days, weeks, months on end.

(3) Go with a dry clutch like those found on open belt primaries.

Thanks all, maybe someday an open belt oh yeah.. for now I am going to hold out and see what happens next.. will keep those in mind
