Installing Complete 18" Sissy Bar Kit on 05 DT Chopper

Greetings,
I am expecting to receive my new 18" Sissy Bar Kit I purchased from Ebay tomorrow. Some of you may have seen my post thanking one of our members for posting the link; indicating the kit wouldn't fit his frame.

I plan to do the install at home. Just wondering if there are any tips, or recommendations for a successful install. Specifically, do I just cut the rear LED lights and solder-splice? any other install tips is appreciated.

I have a 2005 Big Dog Chopper (Daytec frame).
Thanks in advance,
Mike:flag:

NO! Just use a staple or paper clip to release pins from connector. This way there is no open leds to short to ground or hots(+)that will fry the ECM.

be careful removing the original struts. when I did the same install on my k9, I found that the struts had 2 sided tape on them I guess to hold the fender in place for some reason. I chipped some paint off trying to get the struts loose.

Today i installed my sissy bar assembly. everything went fairly smooth. The right rear turn signal was cross threaded from the factory and that was a pain; re-tapped, replaced bolt, all good. The only 2 remaining issues are:

• 1 broken wire terminal connecting the right rear turn signal plug to the main harness by the battery. Anyone know where i can get replacement terminals?

• How is the little black sissy bar bar pad supposed to attach to the sissy bar? It looks like i can "wedge it" but that don’t seem right.

Appreciate any assistance.

I needed that connector too when I was installing a 3rd brake light.
I took one out of an old computer I had laying around.
Pretty standard board connector.
Hope this info is helpful.

I used some non slip tape between the backing plate and pad (on the sissy bar), then tightened the screws. If its not tight it can slip out and you'll lose it or it can fall and hit the rear fender.

I spent 2 hours driving to various shops and stores trying to find a replacement pin for the small 8-pin connector that joins the rear tail lights to the harness,

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase these pins? I am just re-connectorize. it is only 6 connections.

I hate to bust your bubble, but did you realize that your passenger pad is on backwards? Besides that, looks great!

too funny! I came back from Church and realized I had the pad on backwards. I actually drove around yesterday with it like that.:loony:

I used a rubber hammer to wedge the pad up on the bar. Seems to be holding fairly well. I cant just pull it down now.
