Speedo

I'm checking to see if anybody can give me any info: on this.
Back in June I bought my bike and it had 1500 miles on it and
the front rotor fell off of it messing the rotor and bottom forks up,
and the speedo all did not work.I got Bigdog to stand behind the
brakes but I can't get them to stand behind the speedo.
What I would like to know is how is every one getting Bigdog to
fix their speedo. Is there a recall on them or what. And if there is
where can I find a copy of it.

Not sure if it's a RECALL per se but they were having problems...most of us are on our second or third speedo. I think they quit replacing them while they were trying to figure out what was going on...

BD is not replacing fogging speedo's until they solve the problem with the exception of 2 things, it quits altogether and it fogs up so bad you cannot see the speed.

They stopped the exchange not long after I had my second one replaced at the end of October.

It still fogs and am hoping I can get it replaced even if after warranty expires. I choose to look at it as the glass is 1/2 full and they will step up. No reason to suspect otherwise in my case.

My dlr has one on order for me. I do not really care if it fogs up, but I would like it on record before the warranty is up.

Whats wrong with the speedo? Does it work or is it just fogging?
If it doesn't work then it's covered under warranty. Did you transfer the warranty over from the other owner? It only cost a few bucks to transfer it!

Also, who is your dealer and have they been working with you on this? They are BDM eyes and ears and what they tell them is what BDM justs your warranty claims by.

I'm on my 9th speedo so have had good relations with my dealers and full support.

If your dealer is not working with you then shoot BDM an email and they will most likely take care of your speedo.
Also, if you haven't transfered your warranty I would do that.

Later,
Ray

Back in June my warranty had just ran out in May and Wayne over Warrantys
at Bigdog told me that they would take care of it but did not.I just thought
that I understood that Bigdog was replacing all the faulty speedo because they left the factory with this problem. Mine if you run it up to
about 80 M,P.H. it will not return to zero it stays on about 10 M.P.H. and
is off that much all the way up and down.

Mine does the same thing on my 04 Chopper. But 25,000 miles I know when I am speeding so I got use to it. Even if you replace it it still messes up so just know if you are at 2.5 on your tack and your in 6th gear you are speeding

If its a problem ask your dealer to install a Dakota gauge looks cool and works well

If you describe it as a safety issue they will most likely replace it. That's what it sounds like here.

i've had so many speedos i've lost count. the fogging issue, i don't care any about any more. i can still see the needle and thats all that counts. the fog goes away after it sits in the sun for a while, so all is good.

Hey guys, Yea the speedo problem is too well known. I have customers that are on there 5th ones. Big Dog is looking at about 5 years of bad speedos.

If your speedo works and then just sticks on one speed, check to see if the key switch makes connection before it gets too the full 90degree swing. If it does you have the latest and the greatest in key swiches. If not, get one. And also, DO NOT HANG A KEYCHAIN OR ANYTHING ELSE OFF YOUR KEY.
The vibration and the wieght may pull the key back just enough to lose contact. Losing contact for a split second will disrupt the speedo signal, but not kill the bike.

T.Byrd, if you do some research you will see that there is a lot of info on speedo's here in this section. You just have to go back a ways.
There may not have been a recall on the speedo it may of been a service bulletin.
Anyway, look at this link and tell us if you have the new style speedo (button) and the new style bracket (3 thimes wider).
If not then go back to your dealer and if you can show them the pics of the new speedo and bracket and tell them you want it.

Good luck,

I did go back through ,General, Tech. and found all I could.
Not much help, but mine is the old style with the narrow bracket
and it has the white face that you can not see at night.

Ok, then go back to your dealer and tell them to look back over their service bulletins for replacing the bracket.
I you have no joy then shoot BDM an email and they should take care of you.

I just noticed that my LED tachometer is not working. Has anyone else had this problem?
My tach went into a disco light show, then would disappear, and would then start working again. The tach board was replaced. Also, make sure that your battery cables are on tight.

How are you guys getting fogging in your speedo's? Is it after you wash it, or ride in the rain? I had my original replaced because the needle would just bounce up, and down, but I never had fogging issues with either one.

Seems to be isolated to cold or humid areas. Mine fogs up in the cold up here just from dry cold weather. Doesn't seem to be related to rain or washing. It's an internal thing.
Three years in dry Kalifornia and never had the problem!!!
