Clutch related issue

Energy One
I have been having problems with my clutch for sometime I am thinking clutch plates may be worn.
The problem was while the bike was first started if I put the bike into gear without letting it run idle for longer than normal warm up it would lunge forward and stall. Today I tried to start it with the clutch lever fully engaged and the bike still lunged forward and died. decided to try and adjust the clutch cable with the help from the forumn how to. the damn bike lunged forward I tried to restart it with a loud backfire and now it just cranks but no fire.

Could the no fire anyway be related to the clutch. I pulled the plugs to look at them and looking at changing them out as well they were not excessively dark. Lately the bike will only fire with the enricher pulled even with the 2 twist of the throttle it will not fire. so there may be 2 problems Clutch /fouled plugs.

Already working on getting a quote from Karata on a clutch and may do the open primary as well.

The clutch issue wont stop it from firing up.When it backfired did you have the throttle open at all?

TRY starting it in neutral...there should be no drag of compression from the motor on the clutch. Sounds like two diff. things going on there. Make sure she has fuel and spark.

Joe I did not have the throttle open. Really thinking the hard start is due to the plugs. I was using the enricher to start it lately thought because of the colder temperature in San Diego but really thinking plugs may have been the problem. With the bike lunging really Need to get into the primary to see what is going on with that

You should adjust the clutch first and then the cable if need be. A properly adjusted cable should give you about 1/8 inch play at the lever. You need to adjust the clutch by removing the hub that is on the clutch ramp Housing, check the play on the push rod. There is a how to on that process provided by Gas Man, you may have to go more than just the 1/4 turn on the rod to get it to your likings and to keep the bike from lunging forward. As for the no fire replace the plugs and never never never use the enricher. If two twist don't work for you try three it will start without using the enricher. That dam thing will screw up a set of plugs in no time.

Good Luck

Carlos thanks and before I responded I went through about 8 threads on the subject. I looked at the how to's including Gas they are all for RSD models. Not sure how to get to the clutch ramp housing? probably easy to get to but not sure where to start.

I used to have that problem putting it in first and a new clutch pushrod solved it. There were some that were incorrectly sized - certainly for 05, not sure about 04. Definitely try adjusting the clutch first though.

I don't really get the "don't use the enrichener" thing. I always use mine to start the bike (best chance I got of the speedo working), especially in the winter, and then shut it off and use the throttle to warm up. Never caused me a problem as the heat from the bike running soon cleans them up (this assumes your carb is correctly adjusted).

:DI am assuming the reason I don't have to use the enricher is I live in Louisiana and we don't have the cold winter like England might! It is cold outside right now at 65 degrees fahrenheit but my dog is in the nice warm garage:D

I took my enricher off, blocked it and installed an idle adjustment knob. I just give the idle knob one half of a turn and give the throttle two twist before starting the scoot. It starts right up even after sitting for weeks...:2thumbs:

I started using the enricher after the bike was shipped from Hawaii to San Diego. The bike had sat for awhile and really would not start without using it. I have a feeling the plugs were already fouled. I removed them and the forward plug was deep black. bought new plugs today and going to install them tomorrow. As far as the clutch goes I am definately going to keep trying to adjust it if no luck I am pulling of the primary and see what is going on there. But this really gives me a reason as I keep telling the wife to need to go to a Karata 4" open drive..
