Hey guys I am at a stopping point till I get some good advice.. I changed all fluids ready for Bike Week in SC next Wed. In the past I thought I had some clutch slipage in the top of the gears. But Now my bike will sit at the light fine no crawling or anything like that,. But when I pull out and get to the upper end of the green lights on the tach it revs and the tach and speedo move up in the yellow lights but the bike feels like its slowing down. I have about 2 quarters play in the lever, and the adjustment rod nut was tight, then I pulled the clutch pack out found out its is stamped with "Energy One" anyway the manual states the fiber stack should be .845 or more mine is .857-.860. the steel plates are flat when placed on glass. (no warpage) I am going to buy a socket for the clutch hub nut and will torque it in a few. I just need to know where to look or what to do next about the slippage. If a new clutch pack which one and is there any way in hell I could have it by Tues eve. were leaving for the beach rally Wed am. thanks for the help Mike
One other note I need to buy an O-Ring for the primary but every dealer in NC is out Now what

You are about an 1 1/2 from me; I've got my old stock clutch pack here (replaced with Bandit); a lift and a new spare outer O-Ring gasket. You are welcome to come over and see if we can't get you squared away with a fix to get you in spec if you'd like. I can make myself avail Sun if you want to work on it then, let me know. I could probably do tomorrow afternoon as well if I plan it out as I've some grading job to do in the morning.

Reading that again, sounds like you are saying you are in spec...could be your pressure plate spring worn/weak...let me see if I have a used spare worth a shit....min.

I've got 2 used spare clutches with pressure plate/spring's sitting here. I don't remember if the new style soft pull clutch started in 08 or 09...do you have the non-soft pull? These spares are both non-soft pull.
If you got the newer soft pull; worst case I suppose I could send the wife off for beer while we pillage her Coyote....;-) hope she's not reading this...

V and Purple Dog thank you, I just have one more thing. The clutch hub nut has some rubbing on the front side but is tight also a note, I can look down in the front edge and see 2 -3 threads of the nut. is this normal or am I looking at a possiable cross thread. I didnt take the nut off I just checked the torque. ( how do you hold the hub from turning) is there a tool or something I can make to put in there. also Purple Dog I would like to buy one of those O Rings (outer Primary) if you will sell. Just invoice me paypal. I will P.M. You

There was a thread on getting the nut loose and re-torquing. I can't remember but I think peps put a rag on the chain and jammed it up to loosen and tighten.

Try using B&M Trick Shift in the primary for fluid. Auto Zone has it $6.00.

Your correct erldawg..
I stick some shop rags in the chain on the front primary gear so the teeth bite down on it. I use a electric impact wrench which makes it easy. If you use a breaker bar and socket which is a pain in the ass to me, it wants to let the gears turn before it breaks the clutch hub nut loose...

Mike, I don't think you should have threads from the nut showing - it's been a cpl months since I've had mine out - I know it's close, but I was thinking the rod filled the nut threads; doubt its cross threaded - its too thick of a nut to get on that far crossed without knowing there's a problem. It could be loose. Have you had to adjust your cable out? Does your carrier wobble around? Any lateral play in your carrier?
If you can trailer it to my place this w/e; I'm fairly confident I can help you fix it. I also use an impact gun on that nut now; as mentioned a rag wrapped around wrench or screw driver wedged between the chain and gears should hold it. I used to screw around with trying to hold it with brake pressure saddled on bike and breaker bar -- pita. Impact gun is the way to go if you have one.
Your diaphragm spring dome height should be between .020 and .068 installed. If it exceeds that - it's time to replace it. I've got 2 sitting here you can have that we could try if your out of spec.
I pm'd you my mobile number, leave a message if I don't hear it. I've got an enclosed trailer as well if you need me to come and get it. Trying to get you squared away before your Wed trip. I'll be riding dwn to Myrtle Fri 20th btw....

Chili when I took mine apart to install the belt drive you could see about two threads on the nut when tight. I had no clutch problems and the hub nut was tight. You may need to play around with the clutch adjustment once put back together...

purple dog = all class ... atta boy.
when i do the rag trick depending on the bike I take a shop rag and tie a knot or two in it on my dog its a two Knotter. pull them knots tite and wedge it in between the gear and the chain works good and not much risk of bending anything like a block would have.

Thanks guys for everything, I put it all back together and used Trick Shift, was a little easy on it for about 5 miles then couldnt stand it anymore I hammered it and it slipped a little but not like yesterday, I chilled out and put another 30 or so miles on it and it seems like its getting better. I just thought about it I did put a new cable on and didnt do the adjustment rod. have plenty of slack so didnt think it was needed. after it cools down a little I will go pop the cover off and do the adjustment on the rod. dont want to put $$ in this one I am thinking im good till I get back from the rally then like Purple Dog said BANDIT!!!! Thanks again for walking me thru everything and the rag thing is something I never thought of..very cool info from eveyone..Mike
And Purple Dog I will have cold ones for ya next weekend

I FOUND IT!!! Whoo-hooo I dont know why or how but I found that the clutch adjustment rod adjustment is different if its on the side stand vs straight up and down (on a lift) I kept turning it in and never felt a contact point... so I looked at the book, it said to have bike straight up, so put it on the lift and backed it all the way off then turned it in till it touched and backed off 1/4 turn. went for a ride and beat on it a little (ok alot) and it never slipped. no one had ever touched it so I am thinking that it may have been adjusted incorrectly at the factory or the dealer, anyway I am just glad I can go to the rally and not worry about that, Thanks again to everyone that gave me such great advice and really thanks to Jim "Purple Dog" he is a true biker in my opinion Help the people you can and it will all come back to ya..

Confused as you are - "I dont know why or how but I found that the clutch adjustment rod adjustment is different if its on the side stand vs straight up and down (on a lift)"

Would be intrested in knowing why - anybody?

The only possible theory I may have is - the clutch hub "might" be loose or have some play - (I do realize you have checked and re-checked). So when on the stand it tilts allowing the hub to move "outward" - hence you might not feel the plate. Then again it now works so "don't fix what aint broke":up:

As far as all the help, advice and generosity from the forum members - WOW :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:
